Delivery red tape madenss!

Post: # 176305Post Milims »

I just spoke to my friend who is expecting a delivery of her new Sky box. Apparently they have called twice and tried to deliver but despite her putting note on the door to say call at our house they have refused. The reason is that we are in a different street. BUT - let me give you a sense of the geography. There is a path that runs between her house and mine and the bottom of her garden is opposite mine, shielded by a hedge. No road. The nearest person in her street who would be available to take delivery for her is along the path, over the car park, across the road, and part way down another path. So it seems that they would rather have a walk than hand it over the hedge! :dontknow:
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

For most humans the answer to the simplest problem is always the most complex :dontknow: :banghead:
Our remote ancestors said to their mother Earth, "We are yours."
Modern humanity has said to Nature, "You are mine."
The Green Man has returned as the living face of the whole earth so that through his mouth we may say to the universe, "We are one."

It's a topic I find totally frustrating :angryfire:

As they have quite clearly planned and timed routes (my bil is a logistics manager for one of these companies) it wouldn't be too difficult to give a time - say to within an hour. I don't think anyone would object to hanging around for an hour. But, no, they expect you to stay in all day and if you don't/can't you have to pay for the re-delivery. Aaaaargh!

On top of that we have to pay at least a £20 surcharge for living in the Highlands - even companies in Perth charge it!Aaaaargh again

Maybe the word 'walk' isn't in their dictionary?

We have a big sign on our door that says "COURIERS—PARCELS CAN BE LEFT IN SHED". Directions are given and they're asked to bolt and padlock it. The sign also says they can probably find me in the fields. We've also filled in and signed paperwork with four courier companies saying that it is indeed acceptable for them to leave parcels.

So what do I find when I come down from the fields, a note on the door asking us to call and arrange another delivery time or organise for the the parcel to be left in a shed.

Even worse, the note is right next to our note saying "COURIERS—PARCELS CAN BE LEFT IN SHED".

Doh!
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

And we also have to pay the Highland delivery surchange, despite being just off the A96 which connects courier depots in Aberdeen and Inverness. It's a scam.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Oh, and Parcel Force won't deliver here. They take parcels to the Post Office sorting office and the postie delivers. So items that are "overnight delivery" end up taking three or four days.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

And then there are companies like John Lewis, whose computer systems won't accept our address as we don't have a street name.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

And then there are the courier companies whose drivers can't cope without sat-nav, and end up going miles away because they won't look at a map. They don't seem able to grasp that rural post codes may only cover five or six houses but that those houses are scattered over a very wide area.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

So I love companies like Rappa Fencing who'll send a couple of pallets of high-tensile fencing wire and other electric fencing goodies—and not charge for delivery! :flower: And send on trucks with hi-abs so you don't have to unload it yourself, one piece at a time! :flower:

couriers can't find my address because on a lot of satnav maps, it doesn't exist. or they end up being taken to the other end of the walkway across the green, go a few houses down, cant find my number and give up!!! Even i had a job finding the place when we first moved here because my A-Z of basildon says it exists, gives a grid reference but doesn't actually show the walkway or parking areas.

i had to go find the Comet man and bring him, and my cooker on a sack trolley for quite a long walk the other week 'cos he was at the other end of the green. it's about 200 yds from my house to the other end of the green.

I've also had to go find friends who, using satnavs again have got lost and ended up down the other end.....

I think post codes are to blame. why give EVERY HOUSE ON THE GREEN the same postcode?! it's something like 30 houses with the same code!!!!! :angryfire:
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very
