eden project

Post: # 177397Post old tree man »

Thinking of taking Jane to the eden project and heligan gardens in july, i rang them to see how their wheelchair access was and they were very helpfull, i know you can't access all areas of heligan but still worth a visit, has anyone been to eden and how did you find it.
thanks

we went with the pram for the first time this summer and it was absolutley fine, everywhere had slopey paths rather than steps and there was even a little train that could take you from the furthest parts of the project near closing time. its a brilliant place, i'd be interested in how much there is to see during winter though!

yeh I would say the Eden project is very w/c accesable.

interesting place. bit..shoving envirnmental issues down your neck whilst heating vast greenhouses  , but excellent chance to see interesting plants such as cola, rice, vanilla ginger growing etc. if you like gardenes then you will definitely enjoy it.

I didn't enjoy the Eden Project but it is definitely wheelchair friendly as there were lots of wheelchairs and pushchairs in there when we went.

Heligan - you'd only be able to see the flat bit and not do the walks downhill where all the lakes/jungley bits are - but the walled kitchen garden is amazing and that shouldn't be a problem with a wheelchair.

Be warned that we went to the above places in June, before school holidays, and they were SOOOOOO busy, particularly the Eden Project, which is probably why we didn't enjoy it - and we got there the moment it opened to try to avoid the crowds! Not used to so many people and it wasn't even peak season!!!

ive been to eden twice - once in march to see the daffs, and once later in the year.

id say very accessible for wheelchairs, lotsa slopes, and the land train runs quite often i think, from the visitor centre down to the biomes. both biomes have both path and steps.

heligan, been there once. it has a flattish area, round the formal gardens and walled gardens and stuff. defo stay away from the woodland area, me, my mom & my sister HURT for ages after that!!

I took my mother to Eden and Heligan for my 40th/ her 70th in mid May a couple of years ago. Eden was quite quiet then. The only problem we found is that my mother can't tolerate high temperatures and she did get a bit overheated in the tropical biome. Otherwise we really enjoyed it.

If you go to Heligan, get there as soon as it opens. We went very early on Sunday morning and didn't have to queue but by the time we came out there was a huge long queue.

I'm sure you'll have a lovely time

Zoe

I'm sure you'll have a lovely time Russ (and Jane). When are you going?

(Also another warning - the traffic around St Austell is/was a nightmare! We stayed at Mevagissey on the coast but had to negotiate St Austell to get to anywhere as both places are the other side of the town - aaarrrgggh! )

Not quite sure yet, definately not during summer we did cornwall a few years ago and summer is chaotic to say the least, we are trying to be as close to eden as poss and i think with the cottage we found we are far enough away from st Austell to negotiate the traffic, i think the winter or spring should be quieter traffic wise :banghead:
