One cup kettle

Post: # 176879Post JulieSherris »

OK, so I have the stanley stove for the kettle through the winter & then I use a leccy kettle in the summer.... but our water here is so hard that even with a water filter, the kettles still have to be scoured every day because of the build up :angryfire:

So I invested in a Breville HotCup kettle..... I still use a water filter & the hotcup also has a permanent filter too - it heats 250mls of water at a time, takes about 15 seconds & has to be one of the best buys I bought this year - clear hot water at a touch - fantastic!

Maggie, it glugs the allotted amount of water up into a reservoir... then when you hit the button, it only heats that amount - leaving the rest of the water in the jug still cold ready for the next 'glug'...... saves boiling gallons of water at a time - but not good when he wants a shave & we haven't any hot water cos the stanley's not been fired up!

We bought one of the Tefal Quick Cup kettles a couple of years ago. Whilst I'd guess that it doesn't quite get as hot as a true boiling kettle, we pour away the first few ml of water and it does a more than adequate job. Along with some of our other measures - it contributes greatly to our electricity bill of less than €24/month on average - & not bad considering we've an electric oven. If you use it a lot, you should recoup the cost of purchasing it. I'm not convinced these kettles have anything like the life of the traditional ones (I'd put money on the pump in mine failing before the heating element) but they're a step in the right direction.
