I have a German 'granny' but that's what we used to call her parents

my mum and dad are 'abuelita' and 'abuelito', respectively, to my little girl (as were my Latin grandparents). Thats Spanish. And on his side Granny and Papa (could get confusing cos Papá in Spanish means Dad and Pápa means pope!). Thats the Scottish. I too dont really like the terms nan nanna or nanny... again, no real reason why.

The childbearing youth of today!!! All modern children should be brought up to question accepted norms.

Grannies should be called Sir.

I had a Grandma who was just perfect. My Mum, her daughter, insisted on being Grandma to my children, but to me there was only one Grandma, MY Grandma, so I am Granny, since I could never live up to being Grandma! My other grandmother was a Nanny, but so was my mother-in-law....!
My other mother-in-law (life is complicated...) was known as Giggy to her grandchildren and Min to her children. Rum lot...
We all have two gifts we should try to use as much as possible - imagination and humour.
Imagination compensates us for what we are not.
A sense of humour consoles us for what we are.
And wisdom tells us not to worry about it!

My cousin called our joint grandparents 'Nana & Grandad Faraway' because he lived in Devon & we were all in Nottinghamshire.

My girls arn't likely to spog in the near future, but if/when they do I will be Muddy, & hubby will be Womble as these are our most used nick/online names.

We hadn't thought about it 'till this thread came up but neither of us is keen on the 'traditional' names.

I am a long way off ever having to worry about this one, thank goodness! But I have a Nanna (great grandma), Grandma Chrys, Grandma Sam (AKA Grandmère... And she isn't called Sam, that was the name of a dog she used to have... before I was born!), Grandpa (sometimes Grandpa Mike), Grandpa Beard, Grandma Beard and a Granny Annie! I used to have a Grandpère. And my brother has a Nanny and Grandpops.

Maybe if you're feeling the grandparently vibe, it's nice to have them call you Granny or Nanny plus something that you feel is a distinguishing feature?

Ahh, Grandpa Beard is a bit of a ladies' man... So he is my mum's dad and first husband of Grandma Chrys, who went on to marry Grandpa Mike, and Grandpa Beard married Grannie Annie, and then later on Grandma Beard.

Simples!
