MURPHY'S LAW 101: when your house is on fire the stuff you want to save is in the attic and the stairs are already in flames  (been there, done that, and got the tee shirt) the only thing that really matters is that the family is safe and together. :thumbright:

WoW. I love the mandolin. I had both of my guitars stolen last year. Then a found a freebie in the disposal room. I took it. Don't know why as I haven't played in about 15 years. It just seemed right to do so.

Anyway, I would take my I Pod, My box of CDs, and my purse----only assuming Minnie is o.k. If not, then she would be first priority.

The question assumes all humans and pets are already safe and out of the house.

I suppose we should have addressed which sentimental things would you take as it's far more interesting than important docs and hard discs!

I have a couple of boxes of 'stuff' dating back to god knows when, that just sit in a cupboard. Much like my many photo albums I only ever really look through when I move house - which used to be quite often, but I've been 5 years here now!

It contains a huge bundle of love letters from a Greek boyfriend.

A huge bundle of letters that I sent to my mum whilst I was travelling round Australia and NZ so kind of like a diary (tbh I've never reread them).

Plectrums from punk gigs I went to, plus song lists from said gigs which the bands had taped to the floor in front of them.

Old diaries from teenage years

Stamp book!!!

Autograph books including my grandma's one!

My old school reports are stuffed in the fireproof box with the important docs but my old school photos are in these boxes of 'stuff'.

I'd hate to lose these things!

Great selection of instruments Richie.

I would save my Macbook and hard drives
My bag with all my clutter in
And my seed stash!

Richie: Su[er,Niki would be trying to save them all, she'd be staggering out of the house weighed down by guitars and threatening any flames that came near...

I'd take me, the handbag and a set of keys to unlock the doors all of which are easy to pick up no matter which door I'm leaving by. I'd be a bit sad about the Northumbrian small pipes but they are not essential if I am too damaged to use them. You can replace everything that is absolutely essential except yourself if the truth be told. You still have the memories if not the items. Dead or severely damaged by trying to save something seems a sad way to go.
