chillies very small this year and have 2.. count them 2 fruits!

just broughgt them and the peppers in, greenhouse is in shade of massive tree on allotments behind our house and still has a few panes missing, so i can almost see the plants smiling on the kitchen windowsill. mind you at least another month before the heating goes on here lol

I suspect thats why 4 of the 5 I tried to overwinter indoors died in our house Ah well you can't have it all ways

I've tried to overwinter chilli plants a couple of times - without success. I don't think the house is warm enough for them. They've either died of cold or been infested with white fly but I'll try again this year.

The one of mine that survived had really bad whitefly, I actually had given up on it and stuck it outside ready to throw, thats when it recovered

We managed to keep one for a couple of years - it was on north facing windowsill on the stairs.

Not too warm, but never really cold.

I've successfully over wintered mine for many years, the oldest is 4! Providing they don't go below 5 degrees C and start to show woody stems they should be okay. The main thing is some times they will go into hibernation and loose leaves, keep the compost moist when this happens and hope they come back in the summer. I've just pickled 310 chillis!

This year we're experimenting with over wintering the plants in the greenhouse as they're getting too large for the house. Fingers crossed on that one :)

Look at the pretty chilis, I'm jealous! I love chilis but I haven't tried planting them yet. I'll have to try and grow them next year. Those look mighty tasty. great job everyone!

Some good tips here, thanks all!

This year is the first I've managed to get actual chilli's on the plants, they've been infested by bugs everytime up till now so.

So pleased, have 4 wee plants which between them have 5 wee chillis!! Mine have been indoors and will stay that way, not brave enough to put them out there!! Maybe next spring once they're stronger.
