Drunken swine?

Post: # 167750Post Alice Abbott »

Just before I headed off to charge the laptop batteries in our neighbours barn I was straining the fruit out off four gallons of peach wine and had the remains standing in a bucket. Just at that point one of our other neighbours arrived with yet another rabbit (this one is going in the freezer later, just in case we run short of food options later in the year as I can't bring myself to pick all the bones out of another one so soon after the last one).

We struggle a little to communicate as he speaks the local dialect which is incomprehensible to me and my French is nowhere near perfect anyway. But he indicated he really wanted the fruit for his pigs! I tried to explain it had been fermenting and might not be good for them. I don't think the French make country wines as he brushed this aside and ambled off complete with the fruit.

There was 24 lbs of fruit in there to begin with and I now have visions of drunken pigs tearing up the village a little later tonight...

pigs were quite often fed the brewers mash after beer making in the olden days so I wouldn't worry too much

Hi , i once bought 12 ducks 4 weeks old my idea was to fatten them for the freezer, i started feeding them bruised barley as i had plenty feed for my pig everything was fine until an"expert" told me to soak the barley for 24hrs i did this and after a couple of days i noticed the ducks were stumbling about ,even the vet was mystyfied, he reckoned it was a mineral deficency "cut some sods of grass for them" after nearly 3weeks i sussed it ! they were drunk!!! but better still Mr Pig was getting the left overs 48hrs soaked!!! . i started feeding the ducks dry bruised barley and within 2 days they were fine, but poor Mr Pig , he lay and grunted ,and drank water for days with a hangover !.
P.S. I had loads of requests for a bit pork from that pig , but it just tasted the same as any other.
