Reet. My allotment still has alot of clearing to go, but most of the brambles/nettles/thistles have been removed, dads made a start on chopping up the dead tree, and mom & i have been clearing the long grass.

I want to finish strimming the grass down, and then mark the areas (veg patches, walkways, seating etc) and then turn the bits that need turning.

Dad wants to turn it all now before winter, so the sun will kill the roots and the frost will break up the soil, but mark out the areas at the same time.

Its my allotment and i want some crops in to overwinter, so i was aiming on getting a small winter patch ready... which do you think is the best plan?

My dad cant seem to get over the fact that its mine and he has to do as i say.. :(

However you get round it get something in it's SOOOOO heartwarming to get growing and see the results.

Lots of the older boys down our allotment don't really do overwintering stuff so it's probably not important to him. Whereas you have an empire of your own and want to see ti pay it's taxes due in spring- quite rightly so!

You should be able to sneak a quiet corner and sneak in a few peas & beans next month- send him off digging, he will be so busy he won't notice what you've been up to til it's mission accumplished- and I bet he'll be ahppy eating the produce in spring

It's a bit of a girlie trick, it's the 'yes dear' followed by ignoring them and doing you own thing

haha, i like the yes dear idea =D

today i was talking to a lady whos got a plot a couple down from me, and she was asking if im ganna cover it in plastic over winter.. pros and cons of this?!

i now think my plan is to strim all the grass down, mark areas, dig them and start a winter bed, but leave the other areas to be attacked by mother nature. argh. all i wanna do is plant stuff

Patience, honey. All will come to you in the end.

I agree - get it all dug over as per your dads plan and earmark a bit for your winter planning.

I'm sure you've heard the phrase "don't bite the hand that feeds you" the same applies "don't p*** off the dad that digs for you"
