We have a bottle of fig wine which my OH made 10 years ago and wondered whether to open it up and try it. Apparently it tasted good 10 years ago... Has anyone tried fruit wine after this long and was it ok?

10 year old !! how did it survive that long i would definatly open it and try it
but as a caution check the cork and see if it is dry then smell the wine if the cork aint dry and the wine smells ok try a little then try a lot
just dont blame me if you 
as a second thought where are you may be i should try it for you just to be safe

Haha! Didn't realise we had something so desirable! Don't know why it's lasted so long... I'll let you know what it's like when we finally open and try it 
It has a plastic top so can't check the cork.
We also have a bottle of rumtopf we made about 6 summers ago and strained and tried recently. It's delicious but I'm not sure it wasn't responsible for a headache the next day and I only had 2 glasses... I'll have to give another try though to make sure - maybe it was coincidence!

For goodness sake, JoseyJo, don't drink it! Oh my goodness, no!
Package it very carefully and send it to me. I'll do exhaustive testing for you to advise you if it's safe. It could be very dangerous - but I'm prepared to take the risk for a fellow isher. Good Grief - 10 years old! No, no - it may be a terrible mistake for you to drink it. I, on the other hand, am well seasoned for exactly this kind of risky business. I'll have to taste it, cautiously at first, and if I survive then I'll have to taste it in greater volume. Should I still be conscious after that, the next stage would be to "taste" it some more (that's a technical term for blokes like me who risk life and limb for inexperienced winemakers).
After that first pint or so, I may be dead. I don't mind - it's all part and parcel of the terribly chancy art. Even if I survive, then the cumulative effects have to be tested. That could take another couple of weeks and, thank goodness, there would be only a half gallon or so left which could adversely affect your life. Just to be on the safe side, the entire battery of tests would then have to be repeated. At that point, I could tell you if it's OK for you to drink the other gallon.
Thank goodness there are selfless guys like me around.
