Today I am disapointed with humanity.

Post: # 165841Post Gert »

I keep a small box in the field with a few essential tools in it. Nothing much , just a few handy bits and pieces for dealing with the animals, some foot trimmers for the sheep , my hand blades for dagging, some Crovect and a box of rubber gloves for any more serious animal emergencies.

The plastic toolbox I keep them in is wrapped in a bag and stored in a bin. It makes it so much easier to deal with anything, if I have the kit there on the spot rather than having to go back to the house and get what I need when I discover a problem, with one of the sheep or chickens.

Anyway the point of the matter is that none of this stuff is really of any use to anyone other than another smallholder, and yet today I discover that someone has stolen it.
I can't understand why anyone would take something like that. I'm not a rich man and pretty much live from hand to mouth most of the time, so to replace these items is a big expense for me and one that I can't afford to do in one go.
I can't imagine that another smallholder would do something like this, so I can only thing it was taken by someone who thought it would "be a laugh" or just took the box on the off chance that there would be something of value in it.

I know in the scheme of things it's no big deal but it saddens me that people do things like this. Anyway thanks for listening to my little rant, it's helped me get it off my chest.

I'm signing off for the weekend now so hope you all have a great bank holiday, see you next week.

Gert

That's really sad, I'm sorry your things were stolen. Please be reassured that most people are nice, but there's just a few idiots. I hope the person has very disappointed with their stolen goods!

:hugish: That's for you Gert. I know things like that make you feel awful. Just try and remember there are really more good people than bad.

Have a good weekend and good luck.

That's very sad, but doesn't surprise me! I've long lost my trust in the essential decency of humanity... I do hope you'll find replacements soon. Maybe freecycle can help, at least with some of the more "normal" items?

Btw, we don't have a holiday on Monday, only you "Southeners" do!

That's rough Gert.

Maybe try putting an ad in the local shop or something saying 'Lost: Box of tools' and see if they magically appear? I can't imagine that they're worth that much to a thief, and if they've been trying to sell them anywhere and you've put a notice up, it'll make them harder to sell.

Sorry Gert! :(

Agree with Fee Fairy - even if there's just a small chance it will make their life difficult when they try to sell them, it's worth it

Agree with the last two postings - the person who nicked the box might have just dumped it somewhere, and someone else might have found it and wondered what on earth was all the stuff inside and what to do with it.... it's worth a try.

Also have a look on ebay or in local paper etc, see if similar items are suddenly up for sale in your area.

If they're tools that your ordinary person wouldn't recognise, my guess would be kids took them. So as said above a card in a shop window or similar may give them, or their parents, the opportunity to return them.

Any car boot sales coming up? Even if your stuff isn't there you might find cheaper replacements.

adverts may help

such a disappointment though :( :hugish:

this end of the long holidays kids are more likely to be out with mischief in mind, a shame they find thieving amusing. :angryfire:

Cheers everyone.

I've asked other people with livestock in the area to let me know if someone offers them any cheap kit and think I will probably put a little note in the parish magazine saying that I think it's a shame etc. So at least if it was some local kids they might feel a little guilty.

Hope all of you had a good Bank Holiday , apart from those who didn't get one "Ina"

I didn't get one either, but every day is a bank holiday for me! Joke! But as it was a hot day I did take a few hours off to laze on my sun lounger in 'that spot' by the pond and eat ice cream, cos it might have been the last hot day of the year!

Sorry, completely off topic Gert.

A chocolate magnum, but in my 'ish' defence I have been waiting for a month for an internet ordered lolly making kit to arrive but the damn company took our money immediately but don't respond to emails and don't have a phone no which gets through to human beings - howsabout this for making money out of you - you call the number, a recorded message says 'do not leave a msg as this phone line is not manned, please call our customer service number on xxxxxxxxxx' - guess what number we were already calling? :angryfire:

I was about to apologise for being even more off topic, then realised that this posting rather is!

Oh I love white best too but these are 'mayan magic' or some similar silly name; all they are are chocolate ice cream inside with milk chocolate on the outside! Nice though.
