Very exciting. I'm sure you will have a blast there.

That sounds really exciting and I'm soooo jealous!! I taught english in Shanghai for six months a few years ago and I really enjoyed it.
Definitely agree about the clothes though - very difficult to buy. Although if you try the department stores (rather than the markets) then they normally have bigger sizes. They are also skinny too so if you're anything over a UK size 12 then there's no way you can get anything. You can get stuff made and I have some lovely chinese dresses but I didn't find it that cheap for everyday stuff. Luckily I managed to take most things with me. I was also working with a number of other foreign teachers so we could swap clothes too!
Things to definitely take are toiletries (particularly deodorant and sanitary supplies) and, most importantly, chocolate! They don't really do chocolate (although there is a nice brand called Dove which is similar to Galaxy chocolate) and it's quite expensive. Take as many books as you can too and hopefully you'll meet some other english speakers who you can swap with.
I went through Chongqing briefly after I finished teaching but I can't remember much about the place! I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time though as they really look after their foreign teachers, wherever they are.
ooohh - one thing is you should really try and learn a little chinese before you go, and a few of the characters (such as which is the male and female toilets!) are very useful,
Good luck

Don't worry, if your mates don't steal your luggage, Heathrow will do it for themthe.fee.fairy wrote:I'm leaveing work on the 13th August, and i'm going to travel to York for a few days (i have to - they've threatened to come to Heathrow and steal my luggage if i don't...).
