Re: Sosmix
We buy our local wholefoods warehouse's version of Sosmix and I use it for 'meat'balls, baked in a tomato etc sauce, really really delicious, though it sends me out of my mind rolling the meatballs! I'm not veggie but find Sosmix one of the nicer veggie processed thingies - generally I'm not too keen and find they have violent side effects on my delicate digestion. DH (the veggie) often makes Sosmix patties to have with a poached egg as someone else mentioned.
Hmm, now really fancy a poached hegg...

Really??!!Mylovelyhorse wrote:Appantently the owners of Sosmix have said that they didn't realise adding milk powder to the recipe would be such a big issue for people (!?). And now they know that it IS important, they will change the recipe again. So the non vegan thing is just a bit of a blip, and the new stock will be OK for vegans.
Where've you heard that then....?

Re: Sosmix
I've just had an email from alternative stores.com saying they've managed to source 1kg bags of original sosmix, vegan.

Re: Sosmix
Sosmix Update!!
This is from another member of The Vegan Forum:
"I just rang Symingtons, the company who have taken over Direct Foods, and made Sosmix non-vegan and not suitable for people with dairy allergies by putting cows milks in.
After getting angry initially, they have explained to me, that due to the large number of people who have complained, they have now sourced an alternative ingredient, and once the stock containing cows milk has sold there will be no more with this ingredient. The new stock will state on the reverse, in the allergens section, it will not state that it contains any milk."
*does a little victory jig*

Re: Sosmix
Last night we had toad in the hole - I doctored the plain sosmix with onions, mushrooms and sweetcorn, lightly fried and then added vegemite and tomato puree.
There was far too much mix so we had huevo rancheros for brunch today - it was going to be sausage and egg but the mix had gone a bit crumbly so I added a tin of tomatoes and stir-fried it. The ma doesn't like chilli, otherwise it would have had a big sloosh of Encona, and I didn't have any coriander, but it was good anyway.
Six meals out of half a kilo of sosmix!

Re: Sosmix
well - I went out & got the symingtons new sausage mix but its still got dairy in it.
My partner tried it but she said it tasted awful - nothing like sosmix
thanks for the tip about Alternative Stores - I did give them a call to check if there Sosmix is really the old Sosmix & dairy free?
Turns out its the same old stuff but they are not too sure how much longer they will have stocks of it.
Bough a few packs & chuffed to see a 12 month best before date on it when it arrived but I dont think it will last that long.
Got a few nice pairs of veggie shoes too for not too much money
thanks

Re: Sosmix
Suuddenly I can't find Sosmix anywhere in the UK (admittedly I was only able to look in the healthfood store in Whitby and also Holland & Barrett in Scarborough but normally both of those stock it). All I could find was some veggie cumberland sausage mixes which are quite nice but not quite the same. So all I came back to France with was a pile of TVP granules and a couple of packs of the sausage stuff. Is anyone else having the same problem or is it just local to the North East area around us? We'll be back for just a couple of days next week so I'll be trying to stock up if there is any available. Otherwise trying to make the veggie food we like in France is a nightmare!
Growing old is much better then the alternative!

Re: Sosmix
Excuse me - but what on earth are "identity preserved soya beans"? Do they each have their own name???
Confused from Kincardineshire.

Re: Sosmix
It basically means they are not genetically modified - which is a BIG business in the world of Soya beans.
Re: Sosmix
just got an email form our veggie group about a new sosmix website
www.sosmix.com
I did try a few of the replacement mixes but not impresssed
the asda one is not vegan according to customer services
The new granose replacement sausage mix without dairy tastes really awful
Hopefully they will bring it back to health food shops too.

Re: Sosmix
I've been keeping an eye out for sosmix for a while now but not found any
I've never tried it before but everyone who has seems to love it.
