Hi everybody,
I am here especially to read and learn.
I live in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in a flat with a couple of hours sunshine on my balcony a day. We do plan to move to the countryside, but that may takes years: my work is here in Rotterdam and moving to the countryside means buying a car and driving from a little affordable house to work and back would take me about 3 hours a day and a lot of gasoline, so I don't know how to solve that yet. The closer to Rotterdam (and other big cities), the more expensive the houses are and with less space.
It is frustrating because "all we want" is a tiny little house with cold water, plumbing and some land around it and that seems impossible around here. I could do without water and plumbing, but I would like it to be available.
So in the mean time, until I know how to change this unfortunate location, I will read as much as possible on this forum. I have already seen some interesting topics.
Regards,
annemarie.

Hi Annemarie - welcome to Ish!
Believe me, it's not just around Rotterdam that this dream is hard to fulfil... Unless you have quite a lot of spare cash lying around. But we can all dream...

Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Hi Annemarie,
Welkom from a fellow Dutch gardener. I live near Utrecht and will be moving to the Nijmegen area next month. I rent an allotment, which allows me to grow pretty much anything I want. If no allotments are available there now, perhaps you could get your name on a waiting list?

Welcome to ISH
You'll be surprized just how much ebven a tiny balcony can grow, with a little planning.
