Greengage/ victoria plum leaf wine?

Post: # 152377Post craig.r »

Hi, I have noticed the birds have attacked the Greengage and Victoria Plum trees at my allotment but left all the other trees. My question is..... Do the birds eat these because they may taste like the fruit and if so can we make wine out of them????? It would be great if we can :drunken:

assuming you mean the fruit and not the birds, then yes you can but you'll have to net the trees to keep the birds off so you get some fruit rather than feeding the birds.

I meant, can you use the leaves for anything?

I believe the leaves are poisonous, so I'd steer clear of eating them.

You can make oak leaf wine however (using oak leaves obviously) which makes an OK white sparkling. If you believe the herbalists it makes you strong! (I think HFW did a series which featured some... chef on the wildside?)
