mushroom identification - possibly urgent
Hi there - I'm new to this forum & must admit to joining it for a possible emergency. But, having had a look I will probably be back with other things later.
Earlier today I went for a walk and took some photos. One of which was some sort of fungi. I did accidentally touch it , but didn't eat it and tried my best not to put my hands near my mouth until i could wash them
Could you please tell me if my feelingshaky and having sweaty palms and feeling slightly dizzy be from this mushroom - or is it something else entirely.
Thanks for your help

It does look more like scarlet elf cap to me - and it's not known as being poisonous - it's also not that tasty either, so not worth picking to try, according to this

Northender, if you're feeling really poorly & don't know why, I'd suggest calling NHS direct & having a word.

This is a scarlet elf cup. It is suposedly edible (though fairly tasteless). This mushroom will not make you ill (although I suppose it is possible to have an allergic reaction to most things). Furthermore, just touching a mushroom won't poison you, the poisons are not easily absorbed through the skin.

Yup, Scarlet Elf Cup - Sarcoscypha sp.
Supposed to be edible, but not worthwhile. Don't worry about getting ill by just touching a fungus - I regularly use taste and smell in addition to visual clues when identifying them.

Dear Northender,
I agree with becks77, does seem to be orange peel (Alueria aurantia) but they are normally August and September. However, my books say that most of the cup fungi are ok, so just touching one shouldn't have caused any harm. If the dizziness and sweating continues try your doctor,
Love and Peace

Looks like scarlet elfcap to me, and I'd agree with everyone else's comments. It's very unlikely that your symptoms are from touching it but you really do need to get to the doc's if you're concerned.
Take care.

Hey ho.
I only just found the fungi bit, and only then because Jim's post popped up as the most recent posting in this section. That'll teach me to check dates when I'm reading stuff!
Ah well. Either way I hope that all is well with northender.
