i was checking out our town on googlemaps and found a park which I wasn't aware existed. I then realised that we could get to it from our house, via the segregated footpath/cyclepath system and not have to cross any roads. it's about 3/4 a mile away, but it's a great park with both a play area, picnic area and ducks galore on a big pond thing. i really had no idea it was even there. Gloucester Park, Basildon for anyone who's curious. and yes, i know. it's huge. how did I not notice it?!
so, we took soph today. we spent an hour in the park, 1/2 hour looking at the birds and then walked into town too. it was lovely! soph then exclaimed that despite the mini picnic of crisps and an apple, she wanted "real lunch" and asked for a specific cafe to go to for lunch. "Cafe Cosmos" in the bus station.
After this we also walked round town for a bit, went all the way down to asda, then all the way back home via hobbycraft for me to buy some celophane to use as reading filters.
We've walked miles, Soph didnt do all the walking cos we had the buggy, but she did a lot nonetheless. I now have an incredibly chilled, farily quiet toddler sitting in the sun in the garden, eating an orange.
Way to wear out the toddler!!

Well done MrsF. Hope you enjoyed the peace and quiet when you got back
I'm always searching online satellite maps and they've just updated our area on Google maps (I even have last year's spuds showing on the allotment!). We've discovered all sorts of walks and places to go and nosey at. And Katie loves looking at the seaside on the maps too.

Pity it won't work on a sulky seventeen year old!!!!!

E walked 1.5 miles back from a playgroup party the other day (it wasn't in the usual place, so she could walk along the pavement the whole way - I was totally impressed, though she walks alot round parks I had never seen her walk a certain distance before... but I don't really need it to tire her out - she still has a 3 hour nap every afternoon, and goes to bed early and gets up late... I think she would happily sleep all day if I let her.
