Stupid pets...

Post: # 145564Post Mr and Mrs luvpie »

Can we start a competition as to who owns the most stupid pet, or even which type of pet is the stupidist, so far I would like to nominate the following:-

1 - Kelly (Chicken) trying to get into it's nest box, but missing the door 4 times, running down the side of the chicken house instead of into it.

2 - Trotsky (Kitten, ginger and white, with a strange purple tinge at the mo) Managing to jump at the washing machine, miss completely and end up in a baby bath full of purple clothes dye

So do I own two of the daftest pets or can yours out do these two, in fact should chickens even be allowed to enter the competition, as surely no animal can be as daft as they are!

Sarah
the ever growing luvpie household currently contains, 4 boys, 4 chickens, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 4 fish, an empty tropical fish tank waiting new arrivals, now are we daft to look at our broody hen thinking, if we got some fertilised eggs........

Ooo, I dunno Mrs L, owning 2 bassets has taught me that no matter how many times I pop to the loo through the day, or leave the room to go to other parts of the house, when I return I am THE most missed person in the whole wide world!

Or how about our little cavalier spaniel - deaf as a post, bless him... was really kicking off & doing his little gruff 'threatening' bark for about 20 mins one sunny-ish day last week... until hubby walked down from the hayshed until he was 6 foot away & said 'but Charlie, it's ME!!' Barking stopped.....

Funny things, animals....

Not sure if mine are stupid or just a bit strange! We had haggis neeps and tatties for tea one time and I left the dishes on the table while I went to the loo. I came back to find two of my 3 cats on the table - one eating mashed turnip and the other mashed potato - the haggis was completely untouched! One of my cats loves olives and the other dashes into the bathroom every time I go to the loo, lies down on the floor and I have to rub his belly with my foot - woe betide me if I don't - he follows me around meowing until I go back into the bathroom and foot rub his belly!

I think my Jellybean (Cockatiel) would win hands down... he's cute, he's fluffy and he is dimmer than a 9 watt bulb bless him!

When I was weaning him he got a sunflower seed jammed on the end of his beak and ran around for 10 minutes, wings akimbo, screaming with me running after him. Once caught I pulled it off... guess what he did not a split second later?

He will perch on the side of your pint glass and reach in so far he's in danger of unbalancing to reach the last half an inch of anything that's in there, then sit up smacking his lips even when he hasn't tasted any!

He eats dinner... our dinner and I have to try to grab him and wipe his beak after as his beak is usually covered in whatever he's been eating. It was Pasta in Tomato sauce a couple of nights ago!

He runs around the outside of full glasses licking them and looking puzzled as to why this forcefield is stopping him getting to what he wants.

He also runs around with his head down and his tongue out on any smooth surface... they must feel good on his tongue!

If you leave a bag of crisps unattended (usually a family sized bag) he will run in to help himself but then can't quite figure out how to get out so you have to tip the bag and it's contents out at which point it becomes a race to see if the human can get them in the bag before he takes a bite out of each one!

After letting him eat a little piece of ham from his sandwich, Bean went to sit on OH's shoulder and kept looking at his ear... I think he was trying to work out if it was made of the beloved ham he enjoyed so much or not as two minutes later he tried to take a bite out of OH's ear!

He used to site beside the small fish tank bashing his beak off of it in a somewhat shocked manner every time a fish swam past and he decided to bite it... it's the damn forcefields again lol

He loves playing with our bright slinky, he also likes letting it snap shut on his toes as he doesn't remove them quickly in a shock, rather sit and stare at them motionless for ages before pulling them out and licking them (his toes) and staring at them for ages again just to make sure!

He stares at his tummy... for ages

Ahhh it's endless fun living with Jellybean :D

I have 2 cats, they tend to gang up on next doors rotweiler & yet tend to be wusses against other cats, they are funny as individuals too.

Gabriel whose favourite prey is twigs & likes putting his head in paper bags esp if they have contained cookies & then walks backwards try to get it back off again, he also does kamakaze runs at you legs as you are going through a doorway when you are carrying laundry which results in him getting booted into the door frame, he is always fine but we always check to be on the safe side.

Jezebel likes having her tummy tickled but her favourite place is at the the top of the stairs so when she rolls over for a tickle quite often falls down the stairs, she loves attacking kitchen roll & always does the clumsyiest leaps half the time she doesn't make it to where wants to go but such an indignant look on her face when you laugh at her.

1. Bilal (cat) has a foot fetish.

When he's in 'the mood' he'll crawl all over our feet and loves nothing more than being half lifted off the floor by them, and when he's hot he smells like old socks - not from us!!

2. Our resident fat cat, Loki, (although, he's not so fat after losing 7lbs) does yoga. Salute to the sun to be more specific!

3. Our border collie 'nurses' the only cat who tolerates her.

4. Willow (cat) whinges like a stroppy teenager if you move her from the sofa.

Oh there are so many more but it's too late/early!

Ah I forgot something... Jellybean has loads of lovely colourful toys, some I spent hours trawling car boot fairs for (baby teething rings etc) only for him to fall in love with a folded up crisp packet which is shoved through the bars of his cage.

He loves it, some days it gets attacked all day some days he sits with the top of his head resting on it singing to it and trying to woo it!

Either way I'd say it was his favourite toy :banghead:

He also taught himself to go across the top of his cage upside down but halfway through gets a bit disorientated and has to hang there with his head down like a banana for a few minutes before he can make it to where he is going!

If you make popping noises with your mouth (bit hard to explain but you seal your lips then open then with a puff of air to make a popping sound?) Bean will sit on your shoulder and stare into your mouth before trying to attempt this noise and failing miserably, it just sounds like he's coughing but it's hilariously funny as his whole body tenses when he does it... it has us in hysterics.

I've had alot of Cockatiels over the last 15 almost 20 years but I think he is the silliest one so far! They're all a bit mental though, that's why I love them so much

currently Stinky Eric is auditioning for a part in the comparethemeerkat website - and has taken to sitting on his back legs and waving his paws around to demand milk, food, treats, crisps, toast, cheese rinds, trifle - everything in fact - he is a dustbin. He also 'talks' while he does this.

He is a six month old black and white kitten.

We also have Skippy the chicken.
Dead ringer for John Cleese in Monty Python's Ministry of funny walks - think the nazi goosestep mixed with a bit of line dancing to the beat of a polka - hilarious - has us all in stitches when she comes 'running' out of the chicken coop.

Must get that on youtube one day.

 Loving all the stories guys.

My late Jezebel (black and white cat) loved being in a box. One day I got a small cardboard box and turned it up over her. She sat there for so long quite happy and quiet that we forgot she was there. Then some friends came round and again, she sat there quite happy for ages until she suddently started moving around taking the box with her. Our friends jumped out of their skins at this cardboard box walking around the living room on its own.

When I was having the roof done on my house she was always up the scaffolding. She would howl at the roofers who would be convinced that she was stuck and try to rescue her at which point she would run away. They rang me up in the end to say that my cat was stuck on the roof and what should they do? I told them to leave her and she'd find her own way down when she was hungry. She did!

Cheers
Zoe

These stories are so funny and I'm tempted to tell you about our cat, but she is 16 and has alzheimers, so it would be cruel to humiliate her here with stories of losing me when I'm standing right infront of her. :?

I'll tell you something she has done all her life though; which is of great help to me as it's a job that makes my knees wobble - she gets in the bath and tears the hairs from the plughole :pukeright:
