what are you sowing?
Re: what are you sowing?
We've got a 2 year old and a minus 8 week old, but so far the windowsill seedlings (basil is coming up now) are safe, even though they're at pudgy finger height in old toddler yoghurt pots, which is nice.
Whether they survive today's birthday party with 7 toddlers on the rampage is another question

Just planted my onions sets in their alloted beds. Also planted Summer (White/Salad) cabbage seeds in an unheated propogator in a mini greenhouse in the polytunnel...ie triple wrapped! Worked ok last year, will keep you posted.

Re: what are you sowing?
Wow - you guys are amazing; I'm so inspired. I'm only just digging out last years weeds from my clay soil and I'm really nervous of putting anything in there yet. It's so heavy and wet out there.
Maybe I'll start some pots on the dining table. DH kicked a football into the greenhouse last summer Kids eh? ...

Re: what are you sowing?
I've just brought a greenhouse!!!!
Well... ok it's one of those mini-stand-up=pleastic jobs but it's got two shelves either side and i can stand up in it and it fits perfectly in ym back garden! :)
Today I planted 3 pots of cucumbers (one seed in each, is that enough or can I add more the pots are the size of round ice-cream tubs... Yeo Valley Vanilla to be exact )
1 pot (1/2 a 4-pint milk bottle) with 4 cabbage seeds in
1 pot (1/2 a 4-pint milk bottle) with 4 cauliflower seeds in... the plan is to transport the seedlings when the arrive... they're in the greenhouse!!!
Tomorrow I've got:
-some tumbling tomatos (the lovely ex-tennants left me 2 usable hanigng baskets and a bin FULL of real plant pots!)
-Lettuce leaves (well, mixed salad leaves, had LOADS of luck last year with them!)
-peas (I LOVE PEAS!!!!)
-french beans
-broadbeans (another love)
-carrots-potatos
-onions
-spring onions
-radishes
-sweetcorn
Herb Garden also being planted tomorrow:
-sage
-oregano
-cress
-parsley
-basil
-chives
-mint
-dill
-thyme
-coriander
-
Questions:
when should I plant broccoli & peppers?
In the random beds outside uni there is some lavender growing... I can use some if I wish (so I am told) how to I go about getting it to be replanted? like what do I take? don't really want an entire bush of the stuff to cart home?

Peppers need a long growing season, so you should get them in somewhere warm just now and my broccolli said to plant it now too (again somewhere warm, at least till it has seedlings.
Someone was talking about lavender cuttings on here a week ago... it is time just now too, I take cuttings and leave them in water for a good while (kid on they are a flower arrangement) some might sprout roots, the ones that do you stick in compost. Otherwise you can get some hormone rooting stuff, but I don't personally like the sound of it.

Re: what are you sowing?
I have my tray of seed potatoes & Oca chitting in the derelict cottage....
So far on my windowsills I have planted:
Cauliflower,
Broad beans,
Sweet chocolate Pepper,
Yellow Pepper,
Aubretia, (for the banks)
Yellow centiflor tomatoes
Red centiflor tomatoes
'Normal' tomatoes (shirley, I think)
Parsley Berliners (cos I liked the sound of those rather than parsnips)
and 2 little pots of tobacco seeds!
And I have a box full of other seed packets just waiting their turn.....

I've got cress too!! Even ready to nibble at within a week! Either I'm a REALLY good gardener or cress is like the ultimate confidence-in-gardening boosting plant!!
