Marathon
Hi All
I hate to do this especially with the economy as it is but the Tresco Marathon in the Isles of Scilly is looming near on the horizon and I am no where near the amount I have to reach to even qualify for the race.
Training is going well and I are pushing up the mileage on the long weekend run completing a half marathon distance of 13.1 miles a couple of weeks ago in 2 hours 15 minutes plus two - three shorter runs during the week (5miles)
I need to raise £500 to enter the race and if I fail to raise that money all my training will have been in vain.
The run is in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust which I think you will all agree is a worthy cause.
What I would love is if people could sponsor me for a pound a mile which would amount to £26.20. If you are a uk tax payer the trust will also receive over £7 in gift aid tax bonus.
If you can't afford to give a pound a mile then please do give what you can, even a pound overall will help.
The easiest way to donate is through the just giving website. www.justgiving.com/mamos
Thank you for reading this and I hope you can help

Re: Marathon
Not a bad run today
Good weather with a strong wind blowing us along.
Just over 12 miles in under 2 hours from coast to coast of Cornwall (Perranporth on the north coast to Devoran on the south)
No real problems or aches but felt quite tired by the end
Finished at the old quay inn at Devoran and had a nice pint of ale
Next week we are going to try and go for 15 miles

Re: Marathon
Tresco is barely 2 miles long, how is that going to turn into a marathon without cutting your legs to shred on brambles or falling down a kelp pit?

Re: Marathon
Don't worry Al
I will get the money somehow
I would not let all the hundreds of miles I have run over the last few months go to waste as I don't like running that much
I still have a couple of months of fund raising and if I am still short I will have to make it up out of my own money
but I hope it wont come to that.
I still have to pay to get myself over to the Scillies and pay for accommodation for two nights out of my own pocket
The things we do eh

Re: Marathon
Had a very good run on Sunday after a short break due to illness and a disastrous run the Sunday before.
Last Sunday we were running 15 miles but because of work commitments and me being an idiot I did not prepare myself very well the day before. I didn't drink enough water or eat the right foods and to top it of I was invited to a launch party of a new bar that we have done all the signage for and it was a free bar
. I only had a couple of pints but all the same a bit silly.
It was a pretty hot day and I ran out of fuel a couple of miles from the end and thought I was going to die. My running partners said they have never seen anyone go grey before.
This Sunday was different. I learned from my mistakes. Drank loads of water the day before. No alcohol, I have actually given up all alcohol now until after the race itself on the 26th of april
Had a nice pasta dinner the night before and a carb rich breakfast and then managed to run 18 miles without too much discomfort.
We were running laps of a 3.6 mile course I laid out to try and emulate the marathon itself. We did 5 laps but I could have managed another lap.
So we are well on our way with the training
What we are not doing so well with however is sponsorship so if anyone could spare a small amount of money that would help tremendously
Thanks again
