hurray I got a lottie!
yesterday morning I met the man of the allotment site and had a chat.
I decided to take the plunge and rent a 100m2 site.........let's see what happens next.
still have to sign the papers.
the site is 5 by 20 metres and I have NO idea what the next step should be.
the plan is to do square foot gardening with vegetables and have some softfruits if possible.
will get help with the digging, they said rototilling is also possible.
I thanked for the cow dung offer, and will see when I have set up the blocks, to get some compost (and start my own soon too)
so what should I do now, I do have already a list of what I'd like to eat.
the man also kindly offered me when I needed baby plants, he was willing to take some for me when he was going to pick his up.
unfortunately there is a downside too.
the allotment has organisational problems, people not helping each other and putting themselves first, and not following rules etc.
no greenhouses are allowed at all or other things that you build, nor animals (wasn't going to do the latter anyways)
:)

Two roads diverged in a wood
And I took the one less travelled by

Re: hurray I got a lottie!
if it was me I would jump around the house like a mad thing, spend at least a week giggling to myself, drag out ALL my gardening books and leave them all over the floor open at various bits I want to remember, spend around 4 hours on the internet looking at seed catalogues and then spend at least 1 1/2 hrs on the phone to my dad blethering about what to/not to plant.Berti wrote:I have NO idea what the next step should be.:)
Oh and I nearly forgot - when on internet fill in the order forms for absolutely everything you want even though there's not enough time in about 3yrs to prep and grow it, then shut the 'puter down horrified at HOW MUCH?, come back in a couple of days and order what you need. Then wait excitedly for the postie, then wait even more excitedly for the stuff thats not really in season but i got a wee bit carried away- to arrive once it is in season.
then panic about the digging now required once the live plants arrive and the digging is still a work in progress...................lol

Anyway, congratulations, I hope the deal goes through smoothly and think positively about the other folks on the allotment either becoming more of a happy community or moving on and letting in those who do want a happy community.
HAVE FUN

Re: hurray I got a lottie!
you guys are funny
and well, fruitcake IS right, isn't she.
that is the way how it should be and have fun.
I did it few weeks ago already so I am about ready to start.
papers to be signed february 21th.
and then............WHAT? take a deep breath and play in the mud? :D
at least I am trying to make my mind up and draw out a schedule but it's kind of boring .......seems I still have left room when I have divided all the veggies and start on the fruits whew.......... did I chomp off too much?
so where am I now....
- I have some seeds to start with and need to order some more that were on my list
- the man wasn't talking about starting earlier than march with plants/ sowing which seems late to me
- rototilling seems like a good idea to me, then I would have to make up the wooden squares for the blocks and I am almost done.
and LOTS of questions coming up right now.
I better move over to the part of the board where things grow ;)
