If they stun fish, can you imagine what they would do to your home brew?! :drunken:

They are good for the skin if used externally as they are anti inflammatory & a good tonic for the skin, do not use on broken skin & never use internally unless you are a qualified professional as it can cause liver & kidney failure

Sweet chestnut recipe

Post: # 141825Post JeremyinCzechRep »

I found a load of sweet chestnuts while cycling in the Pyrenees. Not sure what to do with them I took them home and made a soup with parsnips. It was de - licious! Just make sure after you've boiled them, cut them in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Don't try to open them with your nails. It hurts! If you'd like to see the full recipe with photos click on Delicious Chestnut and Parsnip Soup

Intrigued on two fronts now:

1) What do you do with conkers to make them good for the skin? (rub them vigorously on a bruise?). In what situations would you use them?

2) How do they disturb spiders - i.e. what do you do with them, and (if anyone knows), by what mechanism does this work.

Oh, so much I learn here.

i'm not sure bout number 1, but the scaring away spiders, so ive been told, is with the smell given off, but im not sure, could be an old wives tale

Thank you so much for the advice on burning them - we have two huge trees in our garden and I have often wondered what I could do with them. It never occurred to me I could burn them! Can't wait for the autumn now. I'm so excited about this!
