Sporty People?

I think i'll watch the footie tonight. I was wondering what sports other ishers enjoyed. Are there any unusual sports that you enjoy?..... e.g., curling, bog snorkelling, shove ha'penny, etc.

I'll watch most sports, but tennis & football are my favourites.

I know I'm a bit odd (God knows, enough people tell me! ) but I can't abide sport of any kind, never could. We have some sports channels on Sky but neither my wife, my teenage lads or I have ever watched them. We are all the same in this house!

My aversion to sport is so great that I nearly trip over my own legs rushing to the radio when I hear "...and now for today's sporting news" so I can switch channels before they can utter a word about it into my ear.

Anyway, as I said, I know I'm odd, but I prefer to do a bit in the garden for my exercise!

Cligereen, if you're a bit odd then so am I. They're all rugby league fans in our house so during the season they watch that whenever they can, and they're always talking about it. OH also watches all the darts that come on tele, and when he's not watching darts he's playing it. It's not so much the sports I can't stand as the constant monotonous drone of the commentaries.

Oh god yes, horse racing has to be the worst, closely followed by football (and the sounds from the crowd).

Can I be in the odd group too? Sport is not something we are into either. That said my daughter is proving to be rather good at cross country running and really enjoying it, so I'm happy to support her in that - at the same time as breathing a sigh of relief that it's not really a spectator sport! I have also suggested that I go swimming once a week - but that's just to kill a bit of time while the kids are doing something in town and there is a rather tempting jacuzzi thingy to wallow in!

I just don't get sports and stuff. Across the road there is an athletics stadium and playing fields, and we see people playing amateur football and rugby and the like in all weather. I can't quite see the windows of the gym from here, but I can every time I walk up the street that way, and there's always someone on the treadmills in front of the window. I know I'm missing the point (can't even see the point, so it's easy to miss), but I just think to myself, how much useful stuff could that person get done in the time they spend running on the spot staring at the wall?

I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone who's into 'doing' exercise. I just don't get it

I understand the adrenalin rush, and the health benefits, but I personally don't enjoy it. I like watching the olympics and used to watch rugby ( ) But football is such a horrid game, and all that it represents (baring in mind that I grew up in Glasgow) I don't think golf, horse racing, formula one are sports what exactly qualifies them as sports?

Football is not a sport anymore if you're a top team it's a business, who you can pay for rather than just a kick about for fun

Saying that, I'm married to a man who was a swimming champion, and a triathlete (why??)..... bless him!

We do some sports - climbing/canoeing(OH), skating(daughter), riding(married daughter), American football(son) and swimming/canoeing (me).

We don't watch ANY on telly - but don't mind watching skating - live.
Don't know if that's weird or not?

Both OH and I love rugby union. I watched it as a child with my dad and carried on through my "political" years because it was the only amateur sport going. It's not now of course but seems still to be slightly less commercial than most other sports.

The other reason I cling to it is that OH has evolved into a sports fan over the years (didn't see that coming!) and by enthusiastically watching the rugby with him seems to curtail his watching football, cricket and any other rubbish that's on. Cunning, eh?
