MMM! Hey, you could always send out a mass PM to us all if you're feeling the need  Sorry you're not feeling too good - I hope you get back on form soon, & Merry Christmas to you xx

IP - glad you find it so amusing - wanna swop for a day? I'd be pleased to!
Ha, well, she got up this morning, as if nothing happened! Wanted to know what the Doc thought of the dogs & our lovely decorations.... as if he'd give a toss on xmas eve at nearly midnight - oh, roll on tuesday, guys!

My one big salvation today is that little Leah is on her way - & she's SO excited!! We've had the morning phone call to say that Santy has drunk his whisky, & the reindeer ate their carrots & did we know that it's Jesus's birthday today as well?
Blimey! Coincidence, or what? The joys of being 4 yrs old

Merry Christmas everyone - have a good day.... talk to yous all later xx

Thank goodness for 4 year olds!!

Leah has been in the living room nearly all day with the MIL..... playing with their toys.... the pair of them are enjoying each other very very much! I'm thinking of keeping the little one for the entire week, it's been that peaceful! :angel13:

OK, before they arrived, MIL started to chat about her neighbours, and there's one that she's not sure about 'because she's a darkie'.... :pale:
I stopped her on that conversation by simply walking out to the garden..... And Breathe!

Apart from that, the turkey dinner was fan-bloody-tastic! We had a photo of 'Edna' the turkey who lived in the field next door with her flock, on the table, while we ate her... little Leah absolutely loved it.
At least she knew where her dinner came from this year!

More updates tomorrow all - hope your day has gone well too.....

Glad it's going well Julie.

All's well here, my gal cooked dinner cos I've got flu or bad chest infection - been laid up for a couple of days - and my mother's been very quiet too (I hope she's not coming down with this cos it really is horrid).

Just remember to keep the back door ajar for a quick exit and keep smiling.

Merry christmas

Me, too. My son's had it (he's the one who brought it into the house), DD1 had it and I think Katie's had it, but not sure. She's certainly had a bad cold and has a cough, but she hasn't collapsed in an achy hurty heap like the rest of us. I hope Richard is OK. He's full of cold and I'm hoping it stops at that. He's back at work tomorrow (Saturday) and he can't take anything for his ailments because of his other medication. But, hey ho! At least I don't have to put up with my parents! Hope all you who have relatives over are still coping.

I have so much respect for those who are brave and unselfish enough to share their lives and/or Christmases with difficult relatives.
The fact that my darling second husband is an orphan made him all the more attractive (!), after my experiences of entertaining my first husband's mother, which was made all the more difficult by having to constantly act as peace-maker between them...
I also want to say how grateful I am to my little sister (she's only 43, bless her, so barely an adult yet) who tirelessly looks after our aged parents in Suffolk, as my relationship with our mother is very difficult.
It's hard sometimes to remember that the elderly have seen so much change in their lives, and they tend to cope by moaning about what we do that's different. We also have to remember that when they pass on, we take their places...so must try to be much nicer parents and in-laws ourselves...!

It was my thread about the caterpillars on the kale and he kept making jokes about caterpillars and I said 'did I tell you in an email or something' feeling very puzzled, when he admitted he had read it all here! Oh Julie, you have made me smile!

We had some dear friends around for dinner yesterday: turkey, trimmings, the lot.

Unhappily, Dear wife and I are still struck down with lurgy (I'll spare you details) and had no appitite nor interest in the TWO BOTTLES OF 2001 MOUTON-BLOODY-ROTHSCHILD!!!!! that our guests had bought!!!!!!!!

They were magnificent, mucked in with dinner and with the girls and left us a bottle for later. They even phoned this morning to sympathise and say how they had a really good time anyway. Thank God for good friends.

On the plus side, this is the first Christmas I can remember when I haven't put on weight. I fact, I'm about 6kg down on the month, which completely removes the need for any depressing adjustments of size.

Roll on 2009.

Well, today I have learnt that:

Daphne (I don't know who this is) never washes her hands after having a wee....
MIL meets Enid (I don't know who this is) once a month for lunch, & Enid insists on visiting the ladies before the meal is served to remove her teeth......
Ted (I don't know who this is) was born & bred in a back-to-back house, and yet still managed to become an Accountant.....
Nita (I don't know who this is) has a small white stain on her bathroom carpet, but does not plan on getting a new one just yet....
Linda (I don't know who this is) is visiting the Champs Elysees in May next year, but STILL hasn't decided what on earth to wear!

See, don't you all rush to tell me that I'm not learning something new every day - today I learnt lots of new things!

In return, I gave her a new experience by serving bacon & scrambled eggs for breakfast - 'Eeeee! Fancy having bacon for breakfast! What a treat, I've never had it for breakfast before'.... :silent:

Three & a half days to go guys..........

One hilarious moment of the day...... on the phone to youngest daughter & because eldest daughter was here, we had it on speaker phone....
Me: What did you get your Andy for christmas then?
Her: Some smellies, a T-Shirt, a crate of beer, a few other bits & bobs. Oh, and I found a c*ck ring for a quid in the pound shop!
MIL: What did she find?
Eldest: Then proceeded to TELL her - in full detail...................

Hee, hee! I swear I saw her wig curl a little tighter..... she took herself off to the lounge after that to watch Playhouse Disney channel with the little one

Talk tomorrow - Three & a half days to go....oh, I said that already........ :shaking:

Oh my god I'm cringing at the thought of discussing something like that with my mother!!!

We're gradually getting better here and brother's going home today but mum's staying for another week. Got to try to get her some cough medicine today but she takes so many drugs after a heart attack I'm going to have to list them all and ask the pharmacist what she can take! It's the first time she's been ill since then so she hasn't needed to take anything like that. Proves you need to read the instructions because the cough medicine I've got in the cupboard gives a warning for those on a low salt diet because a day's dose of the medicine contains nearly 3g of salt which is a lot, isn't it? (why does cough medicine NEED salt in it? )

MMM, I have absolutely no idea! To prolong the shelf life, maybe?
When the emergency doc came out to MIL on Xmas eve, he explained that the Robitussin she had bought was actually keeping the phlegm in her lungs, instead of shifting it out & therefore she was just extending the length of time of her chest infection.
Ditto with Imodium - it doesn't make your tummy upset better, it helps to harbour the bug in your tummy for longer.
MIL takes Imodium whenever she goes out, so that she doesn't need the toilet  She's not actually had a tummy bug for several years, but buys Imodium every week to control her functions.... and no, with all her steroids & heart meds & insulin etc, she's never discussed it with her doc, because 'well, he wouldn't approve'.....

Hope you find something useful for your Mum - what about menthol crystals & steaming water? Oh, I've just had a memory-blast with my mum holding my head under a towel over a bowl of steaming water & goodness knows what & my eyes streaming with the fumes

Here begins another day.......

Like the person above... HAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Now I can breathe again from the laughter... I once had to explain to my Mom what a 'Rampant Rabbit' was as I had left my PC screen with a friends social networking profile on it and a bit of it said something along the lines of "awww isn't it lovely all these women loving their 'rabbits' but surely they should be feeding them lettuce more"

To which my Mom said "we always used to feed our rabbit lettuce, why aren't these women feeding it to theirs"...

Cue horrified look from me and aa rather ginger explanation of which she still didn't get to I had to show her one online... cue horrified look from her :pale:

Fortunately I love my Mom (I know I should be cast out of this thread for that) but she has led a somewhat sheltered life despite being married to a Policeman who has led a far from sheltered life lol I don't think she'll ever ask anything like that ever again though. I told my friend Rob much later and he fell about in hysterics...

Not long to go now before you pack off your relatives back to where they came from and you can have a rather large beverage and relax! Stick with it... you deserve medals!!
