I tried to see the funny side, but I have seen this happen in my lifetime and it is so true, that I was closer to tears than laughter. Thanks for posting it JH for it is the truth and gives meaning to what a lot of you folk are trying to do in your lives.
I can't do great things, so I do little things with love.

Dear John,

Still laughing (the bitter, cynical sort of laugh). So true and so cleverly done. Should be seen more widely!

"The country faces grave ecconomic difficulties and the liklehood of severe shortages. Unemployment, soaring food prices, chemically adulterated foods and the increasing dehuminisation of our society have all contributed to a growing awareness of the need to be more self reliant; to grow more of our own food and to make fewer demands on a state which can no longer cope with the needs of it's citizens......."

How true in todays "civilized "world.

However these words were written in 1975 as an editorial in the new magazine called practical self sufficiency later to be known as country small holding.

Maybe civilisation isn't all it's cracked up to be.......

Very good, thanks for posting that. It's well made, and shows that we are not the only ones who can see through the con trick

Keep spreading the word :thumbright:

I watched this the other day and found it quite sad. I resent that this so called civilization is meant to be the only way to live. It's so restricting.
England is not a Free People, till the Poor that have no Land, have a free allowance to dig and labour the Commons.

Quite chilling, John.

I was on the phone to the 88yr old MIL yesterday, who is coming to us for christmas - she cannot for the life of her understand WHY we have bought our house & are wanting to create a personal smallholding. She thinks it's a shame after having a house with all mod cons, that we would choose such a 'primitive' lifestyle.
I was trying to explain that if more people would 'do' a little more for themselves, then certainly it would help to leave the environment a little more friendly for our grandchildren & their grandchildren, etc.
Her reply? Quote:
"But why would you bother, it's not as though it affects us, is it?"

I am deeply disappointed & to be quite honest, I'm ashamed of her selfishness. It's going to be an interesting time when she arrives next week, I think.

Before I read the last sentence I thought Oh Oh Christmas in lebanon for Julie... but then you have already grasped that, lol. Good luck from a SIL who was told on the eve of his wedding.." You know Alan when Amanda marries you tomorrow she is marrying beneath herself". nearly 22 years later the same sentiment is still there.

Take care,

Alan.

P.s. have an argument for me please,

Oh how familiar!!!!
My parents have treated my very down to earth and tolerant OH as second class for 28 years!
We even joke about it in the family.
And they refuse , point blank, to even recycle things - glass paper etc - it drives me nuts! I often take Their debris home from their house to recycle some.

Jingle Bells aargh!! :santa:

Oh, Al - I'm pretty sure that after the first day of her visit, I shall have started a new thread which will probably turn into a daily blog with me ranting on about the stupidity of the woman!!

For a lady who's been around for so long, she's SO blinkered.
I am not in any way 'ist' - not sexist, racist, size-ist, nuffing.
BUT...... I AM 'classist'!

She describes herself as 'middle class' - hubby relates the story of when a long-standing neighbour first moved into their little middle class estate - because he was a blue collar worker, no-one in the street spoke to them for the first 7 years
40 years on & he has been the best neighbour she could ever have wished for - but she STILL talks about them in a derogatory way.
Like I've said, I'm prepared for a real battle this year - she hasn't got an en-suite guest room with the walk-in wardrobe, the household appliances are not new, there are no perfect paved pathways around the garden & no tarmaced driveway with electric gates. Every room needs painting, every floor needs renewing & the carpets are filthy, the curtains are old & faded, she's gonna HATE it!

Now, deep breath - only 6 days left to mentally prepare.......

And Al - doesn't matter that your MIL thinks you weren't good enough - it wasn't HER you married! Count your blessings
Keep up the good work with the weight loss too - don't you let it slide over chrimbo!! You'll havta change your user name soon
