What sponsored things have you done

Post: # 130455Post Andy Hamilton »

After being back from my cycle ride from Bristol to Aberdeenshire I wondered if any of you ishers have done some odd or endurance based sponsored events. Dave once dressed in 70's clothes (this was in the 80's when not fashionable) for a day at school for comic relief, I have absailed down a fire station for the blind. (well the fire station was for sighted fire fighters) and cycled to ilfracombe for FOE.

So any of you sat in a bath full of beans or stilt walked your way from Lands end to John o'groats?

Abseiled down a water tower for Amnesty Intl. Bungee jumped for Mencap. Parachuted for Soldiers Benevolent Fund (or whatever it's called - it was 15 years ago.) Nearly drowned in a Raft Race for a local (at the time) special needs school. Nothing really endurance-related, but people still coughed up.

Oh good grief, I haven't done anything since I 'Ran the World' back in '84 or '85. Couldn't run the sitting-room these days. Good on ya though, Andy.

When I was young and my Dad was still in the Police Force they used to have an Annual Christmas Kids Bash which meant they'd take all the kids of the Policemen and women to either a panto or the circus then back to Wilmslow Police Station (and the court room lol) for fish and chips.

When I got older I did the Beating the Bounds walk where half the money raised went to the Round Table and half you could give to a charity... I gave half to the kids Christmas fund as it had always given me so much fun...

Funny thing was the Chief Constable wrote a letter to me and my Dad thought I had been in trouble so opened the letter expecting god knows what and it was thanking me for donating money HAHA!

Last year before moving to Ireland, I was 18 stone - I did the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride... didn't break any time records, but I did it!!

I got sponsors from the local police, council, businesses & donated all proceeds to our residents association for alley gates to make our street safer....

Moved to Ireland in October... alley gates went up in the November  House prices went up too!

This year, I'm now 11 stone & there's no way I'd cycle on the roads out here... too chicken!!

at uni i did a sponsored "dress like a tw@ day...." for the rugby team. i wore an adult size babygro, my hair in bunches and carried a teddy.

forgot to mention how much we raised. no idea actually, i was a bit too drunk by the end of it to remember.

for much more worthy causes, i have again been knon to dress like a tw@.

I did a lot of sponsored walks and cross country running back when I was fit enough!! I've also dressed as a bride from charity shop wedding dresses in a shopping centre for British Heart Foundation, sponsored tiddlywinks (at primary school!) and various quizzes. Nothing as adventurous as abseiling!
When I was young people called me a hippy. Now I'm a bit older I'm just called environmentally aware..... that's progress!
