Please can someone out there in Ish land please explain the humour in the Jonathon Ross show. I would find it quite funny if someone phoned me and told me he was having sex with my Daughter, and funnier still when kicking him in the Googles on TV, all in the name of humour of course.

NO it's not funny... Russell Brand has just gotten over making the fake 999 call on stage fiasco and then does this... the most UN funny man you could ever imagine walking the face of this earth... absolutely disgusting!

What they did was not funny in the slightest but having worked at the BBC in Light Entertainment radio I have to ask. Why isn't their editor (the person who decided it was acceptable to run the recording of the phone call to Andrew Sachs) being publicly pilloried the way they're being? Had he said, "No, that's going too far. We're not running it and you'd better make a personal apology to Andrew and his grandaughter", not only would no-one have been any the wiser but it would have been a reasonable outcome for everyone concerned. Not brushed under the carpet, but dealt with in an adult fashion.

As it is, Russell Brand has resigned from Radio 2 (good for him, it was the right thing to do under the circumstances and showed a level of maturity I didn't realise he had) and Jonathan Ross has been suspended. But not a word seems to have been said about the editor, who should have been shown the door the minute he made the decision to broadcast.

Quite right, I have worked with 'talent' before and it is backgrond staff that need to do the reigning in... I am worried that no-one working on that show said "stop, enough is enough"
I think if the general public got to hear what usually gets left on cutting room floor of comedy shows they would be horrified.

Also, while we are on the subject I don't understand how people can complain about a show that they did not listen too. Andrew Sachs obviously has every right to complain, it should never have been allowed to happen and the show should never have been broadcast.

For what it is worth, I did hear the show, I thought it was staged (as I say, I worked in entertainment, it is common to stage things like that) when I realised it wasn't staged I thought the producer should loose their job. I happen to like cutting edge comedy and I will miss the show (some of it as always a bit too far in my opinion) But Mr Brand has bigger fish to fry in the US now... BBC radio had edgy programming for the first time in years, I'll be sad to see it go.

Ok - I agree-seriously unfunny , nasty prank which demonstrated a serious lack of taste - never mind humour - BUT - what a media induced fiasco!!!!
#Only two people complained on hearing the broadcast - I would not have listened to such twaddle either.

Who IS actually creating this? The gutter press - desperate to create yet another media frenzy?

Neither Andrew Sachs - nor his grand-daughter said a thing until the ridiculous media explosion.

Annpann, What is 'cutting edge comedy, and I must admit that I do not listen to that type of show, for the reason that the use of F word, and having watched Freddy Starr acting the part of penis coming to an erection in front of an audience of celebrity's who were in hysterics, neither funny nor clever, but then I never thought toilet humour funny, so I assume that it me that is out step with the rest of society. I too worked in Entertainment, and yes, you are right to bring to task those responsible for the editorial content and I agree that any action should be equal. But by the same token if the audience is prepared to listen and accept this type of Comedy then they too bear some responsibility. These comments I know will be condemned by some members, and yes I understand your arguments, so the question I pose really is, How far do we go the name of Comedy, and freedom of speech, and in this context I am thinking of our children, and the world they inherit.

Yep, the peeps responsible for editing & letting it go out on air were just as much to blame as Messirs Ross & Brand....

Let's also not lose sight of the fact that the granddaughter isn't exactly a miss innocent either & has 'been around the sleazy block' herself as well - altogether a jape that went a tad too far & was blown out of all proportions by the UK media - as always!!

No it wasn't funny but everyone drops a bollock from time to time, can anyone one here seriously say on here that they haven't said something that they didn't mean to or have accidently offended somebody or in the case had somebody butt in & F**k everything up. On this radio program it was Jonathon Ross who mentioned it & yet it was Russell Brand who fell on the sword & yet this could all have been avoided if the BBC took on the concerns Russell had brought up, it is more down to the radio editors to have said no we wont broadcast it instead of going ahead with it and playing it, this was pre-recorded it was not a live prank, the whole thing could have been avoided if the people in charge had done their jobs properly, ok yes something should have been said to the pair, but this has been blown way out of proportion, the were very few complaints about this until The Daily Mail (who are a bunch of sensationalist bigoted tossers) decided create a huge thing about it and then shame on the people who deliberately went looking so they could be offended by it. If something is going to cause you offense don't go actively searching for it, because it is then you who holds the responsibility of actually listening to it in the first place as it was your choice. Over 92% of the complaints are from people who actively sought it from youtube & the initial complaints actually were in single figures in 48 hours, it was only as word spread did it get to what it is now, Andrew Sachs has accepted the arology & the granddaughter in question who was 'so offended by it all' responded by posing for The Sun in basque & stockings. So shame on everybody who jumped on the soapbox.

Have just read about this on a french forum - 10 whole blooming boring pages already and I really didn't expect to find it here on Ish - not one thread but two!!! Personally I couldn't give a monkeys and would never have known if I hadn't come across it on the other forum.
