Re: Happy belated birthday Farmerdrea
Thanks, Zoe! Really had a lovely, lively day! Had to deliver a couple of goat kids about 2.5 south of here, meeting the people who were buying them halfway from where they were, and they were happy to pay for our petrol to do so. So, OH and I made a day of it, leaving the farm and kid feeding in the capable hands of our teenagers. Delivered the kids, had a great chat with their new owners - always gives me a heart-smile when people get so giddy abotu baby goats, especially in this case, where the husband had had spent summers as a child on a goat farm and had a special friend in the herd and wanted a goat who looked just like her so he could give her the same name. I was quite happy to oblige and now he has a goat named Tangerine of his very own.
Then went to have lunch in an establishment where I had eaten a couple of times before and knew the food to be good. It was well after the lunch hour, and we only had a certain amount of free time before HAVING to be at home, and we were glad that the restaurant was quiet. Went in sat down and were promptly ignored for more than 10 minutes whilst 2 other parties who came in after we did were tended to and had their orders taken. We just looked at each other and got up and left. Maybe we smelled like baby goats?
It's been literally years since OH and I have had a sit-down meal alone together, and since we had 2.5 hours to drive home, we didn't think we'd manage it this time either. On the way home getting hungrier by the minute (thank goodness we'd had a late breakfast!), we happened on a French cafe on the main road, all on its own in a tiny community. It was already 2:30 so it wasn't likely to still be open, but it was!! The food was lovely, the service was friendly, and it was warm and quiet.
Got home, and had a couple of urgent messages from friends. Rang them both back and it turned out the 1) the children were invited for an impromptu overnight camping adventure and 2) early next morning we were to be invaded by a TV crew from 20/20, doing a segment on self-sufficiency farming! So, with the children gone, it was OH and I to do ALL the chores, bury the dead duck and pick up the horse poos before the TV people arrived, as you do on a bright Sunday morning... It was quite an eventful weekend!
Sorry to ramble on so, and time to feed the babies...
Cheers

Wow - quite a day. I bet you need a rest now. How did the TV filming go? Are you famous?

Heck no, I'm not famous, but one of my goats spent a lot of time in front of the camera on the milking stand!
It was interesting. They spent about 4 hours just following us around while we did the milking, etc and chatted and asked some questions. The presenter said he'd be ringing later on with more formal questions for us to answer. It's supposed to air in about 3 weeks. Wonder how far 4 hours gets whittled down...
Cheers
