this made me believe in human kindness again

Post: # 127878Post mrsflibble »

soph and I had a mammoth journey on saturday to go meet James from work and then go onwards to his mum's for a night 'cos he was missing his mum and Soph was missing her grampy harry.

anyway, this journey involved trains. many many trains. we had already got from basildon into fenchurch street, walked from fenchurch street to tower hill and got round to liverpool street on the circle line. we got onto the central line to head for east acton (where jim was to meet us) and it was jam packed more than a jar of robertson's. soph was crying and terrified everytime the train lurched, and the people on the benches were avoiding eye contact. i didnt want a seat for me, i wanted one for my 2.5 year old babyboo. anyway, after a little while the sea of people parted a bit and a lady on our right hand side said "my daughter's made space for yours if you'd like" I was sooooo thankful! this 6 or 7 (no more than 8) year old had moved up for my baby! sophie sat down and said thanks to the girl, who introduced herself as Lucy. I chatted a little with her mum and then someone left and i got the seat next to lucy and sophie and they could spread out a bit again. I was just so happy, it reminded me that out there, if you look for it, there IS still the milk of human kindness.

GO FORTH AND DAIRY-FARM THE MILK OF HUMAN KINDNESS!!! LET'S MAKE HAPPINESS CHEESE!

You are lucky, and that is good to here. I was in London and smiled at folk on the underground - in a good morning sort of way ( not like a lunatic) - but folk looked at me as though I was really crazy!
Up here, we still say good morning to strangers. :sunny:

Awww that's awesome Mrs Flibble! Kids can be so sweet!

We were in a huge cue of traffic a while ago and there's an old Jamaican (?) lady who is either homeless or mentally ill and she walks up and down the main road with a HUUUUUUGE hill all day... back and forth with these massive bags. It's all she ever does...

Anyway, we were at the lights and she stopped at the phone box to check the phone for change that someone had missed and someone in the car a couple on front called her over, handed her a £10 note and then just drove off.

I nearly cried... I didn't think there were people like that in the world anymore!

Edit - I know what you mean about Londoners they are a strange bunch at time I still smile at them and say hello at times and yes, they look at me as if I'm a nutter

I'm just so glad that not everywhere is like London! If you make eye contact with anyone they think you're a nutter! Well there are so many nutters on trains and buses everywhere no wonder everyone reads books and papers and don't look up no matter what or you get picked on by the loonies.

So glad I got out of that. Last time I went on a bus it was in Somerset and lots of people were giving their seats to the many elderly on the bus. I didn't because I consider myself very middle aged in such situations and there were tons of young students on the bus.

Ahhhhh there are some benefits to getting old! There, that makes me feel better!

Last month I was offered a seat on the train - I was devastated! I still think I should get up and offer! :?

Lovely to hear that MrsF - there are a lot of good people out there

As a northener I do talk to people at bus stops, in shops etc - and down here in the southern towns there are many that look at you oddly but also had many happy conversations including meeting the lady who lived in my house some fifty odd years ago (so now I know who the names scratched into the bricks in the porch are)
