At what age did you start liking mushrooms?
I was 9 or 10 years old and my parents had a fruit and veg shop. We had a huge box of mushrooms that had gone past the stage that anyone would buy them, so it was a case of eat 'em or chuck 'em. My mum fried them all up and we each had a big plate of them. Before then, I hated them. Ever since, I've loved them.
How old were you when you started liking them?

I still err on the side of not liking them but then I like them grilled or on grilled kebabs or if they are well cooked in a sauce of some kind but then I will out of the blue have a hankering for Mushroom Soup then as fast as it comes it goes again and I don't like them all over again... guess I'm just strange!
OH likes them raw *shudders*

Hard one that, I know I ate them when I was in my twenties but definately not when I was a child!
I still don't like some mushrooms - basically anything that has been picked from a field has a taste and mushy texture that doesn't appeal, and the oyster mushrooms which grow on my own land had maggots which put me off anyway. St George's mushrooms taste really different and I can't stand them. I do wish we could get the open cap ones with black gills that you can stuff here in France though - we only have little white button mushrooms. As for all the fancy girolles and chanterelles and things, I wouldn't give you tuppence for them!

I dont remember eating mushrooms as a child, in fact I cant think when I really started to like them, probably when I went veggie about 15 yrs ago. I have to say though that I adore mushrooms now and am fortunate to work near a greengrocers shop that sells its fruit and veg at a reasonable price, and sometimes you can get a real bargain! I got a huge box of mixed mushrooms for £1.50 the other week. I went in yesterday and got a massive bag of them for 80p. You can do so much with them.
My fav ways of cooking them are;
With a cooked brekky
Stuffed with stilton, breadcrumbs, onion. garlic a dash of soy sauce and mustard
In a garlic cream sauce
Battered and served with a garlic dip
Mushroom Stroganoff
Oooh! I feel hungry now!

Re: At what age did you start liking mushrooms?
We didn't have "ordinary" mushrooms when I was a kid; except the occasional tin of them. However, my parents always collected edible fungi when in season, and I hated them... I don't know whether it was the way they cooked them, or whether it was just a particular type that caused it, but they always turned out slimy.
Now I like all sorts of fungi - some more, some less.

Never.
Unfortunately mushrooms have bad associations for me. I'm allergic to them (along with peppers and onions), but my dad doesn't believe in food allergies unless its severe enough to kill you on the spot, so he keeps trying to force or shame me into eating them. He acts like I'm still 4 years old and going through a "picky-eater phase" (I'm 27). Grrrrr.
Sorry, bad day.

Re: At what age did you start liking mushrooms?
I couldn't stand them until i was about 15/16. I was working in a restaurent and the boss opened a tin of really tiny button mushrooms. She showed them to me and said "Aren't they cute?". It seems a really odd thing to say/do now. She put them into a sauce of some sort and I really wanted to try it. After that I was hooked and love all mushrooms now.
