old garden implement?

hi all, my dad bought this at the carboot sale about 10yrs ago. its copper i think and about 14 inches high. has anyone any idea what it,s for,or where it may have came from. all replies greatly appreciated..................................jim

My grandmother had loads of things like that, both metal and ceramic. I think they're meant for decoration.

Smoker? for smoking bee hives (or whatever it's called) or even fumigating plants perhaps or even just a fancy watering can... it looks familiar and I'm thinking I've seen them on Victorian Kitchens (or something like that) but I migt be wrong... it's been a while!

My first idea was - oil can. But whether for use in the kitchen or for oiling squeaky doors, I have no idea.

I do remember the Victorians using rather poisonous chemicals on their roses in smoke form and it definitely looks like something like the guy was using so I'm sure it is but as I say... it's been a while and my memory ain't what it used to be

just out of curiosity but have you tried rubbing it?

How does it open? That might give you a clue. Is that a plunger on the top? In which case it it probably a garden spray of some sort. If you just open the top then it's probably either for oil or for applying chemicals of some sort. If it was a smoker there would some way of putting the nicotine inside and lighting it and I can't how you would do that from the picture.

Quite fascinating just speculating. If it is Victorian then I'd say it was practical as there isn't enough decoration for it to be ornamental. If it's more recent then it could just be a decorative imitation.

Rub it again and see who pops out

the only opening is on the top. like a teapot. i dont think its just decorative. it feels like its made to be used. its a very thick grade of copper. its heavy. thanks for all replies so far

could it be one of those hash pipes by any chance ?? stick a bbit of tubing on the "spout" end and puff away till the cares go yonder.......?

Nope thats a Turkish coffee pot. You put them on the stove with the coffee in, boil then serve (grinds an all!) with lots of sugar.

M'mum has a couple, plus the ones that are copper long handled pan types.
