sanity cloths

Post: # 120937Post mrsflibble »

let's face it, everyone has something which keeps them sane during hard times. mine is crochet. it helps me relax enough so i can sleep. these cloths are from the past two days.

this one started off as a circle, but it decided it wanted to be a star. no, seriously. had nothing to do with the decision., the hook did it by itself.

this is meant to be crinkly for ease of scrubbage.

the pattern for the centre of this came from my 1970s craft book. it's a flower for a hat. the border is all me though. this one's my fave I think.
Image

this one is a six point star. it does lie flat and doesn't look as bent out of shape as it does in the pic.
Image

this is more of a sample, it's a combination, a sampler if you will, of standard uk crochet, frenchknitting and tunisianwork crochet.

all were worked on a 4.50 hook.

nope. that's the beauty ofit. once you've picked up the basics it's so quick. I can't stand knitting 'cos it takes an age.

Those are lovely, well done! I've got balls of cream cotton yarn here which I bought because I couldn´t resist them. A bit fine really but you've inspired me to have a go later tonight. Thanks!

I sat down with my cream cotton, a size 4 hook and a nice glass of red wine to watch Wire in the Blood last night and came up with a really nice dish cloth by the end of the evening. They feel so chunky and useful, it reminds me of knitting them when I was a child. Not having any pattern books here, it's just a large "granny" square with a plain border to keep it firm. I must look through my craft book and see if there is anything else in there. You've inspired me, Mrs F!

Linzi, I love your ammonite avatar. Did you actually make that ammonite, and if so, how? Chaps in our family are a bit keen on ammonites...

I was speaking to my Mom on MSN earlier and was telling her about the discloth. She said that when she was a child she used to make fancy thick cotton squares and sell them as face cloths. She said she always had lots of pocket money! She thinks she still might have some somewhere. If she finds one I'll post a picture.

And I thought this was going to be a thread about alternative sanpro LOL.

Fab stuff... and I love the thought of a 'sanity cloth'. I've not crocheted for ages - I picked up my hook last year sometime when I found a pattern for a bag and was going to make them but the wool/cotton I had wasn't right. I think it's time to have another go!
