Kitten poo

Post: # 123623Post Loobyloo »

Hello, not sure if this is the best place for this question but going for it anyway:

Earlier in the year I got a nice wooden container (approx 2' ish deep and 2' ish in diameter) filled it with soil and sowed some mixed salad leaves. Just as my first little seedlings were sprouting we decided to let the kittens out for the first time. :cat:

You can probable see where this is heading. The little furbabies decided that the container was the best kind of loo and ruined my seedlings. I didn't manage to do anything else with the container at the time but now the cats have grown up a bit they haven't used it as a loo for a few months. There are weeds starting to grow in it.

Ultimately the question is: Do I need to get rid of all the soil and start again? Would it be ok to remove the top few inches? or is it fine?

My feeling was probably get rid and start over but wanted to double check before doing so.

Cat poo is a main source of toxoplasmosis, I'd get rid completely and disinfect the container. I'm not a germ-freak, so if I'm freaking out about the germs its probably a good sign that there is something to be worried about  !
