yeah, it's not far away. last year we'd only just moved in so I had nothing to hand out. this year I'd like to give, but know most parents wont accept home made food just in case you're some rat poison obsessed mentalist.
I'm also not sure weather or not to take soph this year, she seems old enough but we only know two families in the walkable local area, neither of which I'd like to impose on.
WWYD?!

Re: Halloween
Little halloween shaped biscuits always go down well here.
I used to take my children out dressed up (they are 19 &17 now lol)
I used to work at the local school and so know the kids love to go out door to door, but it's not always safe and not always wanted so we always dress the house so kids know it's ok to come and as most of them know me also know it's safe to come, I used to take my kids to houses that were decorated.
Where we live the local paper print a poster to put in your window if you don't want disturbing at halloween.

Geography is just physics slowed down, with a couple of trees stuck in it.

Re: Halloween
you see, I sort of want to be disturbed, but then again I don't 'cos round here you get two types; the kind who want to have fun, say hi and get sweets and the kind who will egg your house if you don't give them cash. I'm sure our neighbours (ex cop one side, essex hard-boy on the other) would help out if that happened though.
oh well, by the end of oct I'm hoping soph will have made school friends hahaha!

Re: Halloween
When my eldest kids were younger we used to all get dressed up and take them for a picnic in the dark in the woods! I'd make things like roast potatoes, sausage rolls and the like, and wrap them in foil while they were hot. We'd also take a flask of tomato soup. Armed with lanterns (pumpkins as well as 'proper' lanterns), we'd head off to the Humber Bridge Country Park. The first year we did it, we we're all alone. The next year, someone had come up with the idea of an organized event where lots of families (ALL dressed up) met up and were led around through the woods by Death (I think). During the walk they came across a witch who told a spooky story, met ghosts, saw lanterns and other decorations hanging from the trees. They also unexpectedly saw us!
As they walked down the little paths they would see lantern lights through the trees, and there would be witches (Chrissie and me), a devil (Richard)
and a zombie (Edward) all having a picnic.

We went year after year, never joining in with the organized event, but having fun knowing we were spooking the families more than they had bargained for. I think we also spooked the people who were running the event, which was an amusing thought.
Oh, and on the way there and back in the car we listened to a tape of spooky music.
Eddie and Chrissie are too old for it now, and I think Katie is still a bit too young The woods are all sloping, wet, slippery mud with huge tree roots sticking out everywhere. There are no street lights, so I don't think Katie would manage walking, and we certainly couldn't manage to carry her in the dark. If it's not too wet, we might have a lantern-lit picnic in the garden this year.
