moving to Wiltshire

Post: # 123248Post Loobyloo »

Hi Folks,

My partner and I are planning to move to Wiltshire next year. Ideally we would like to rent a smallholding but we're thinking that's going to be pretty hard to find so it looks like what we will probably do is rent a house and some land separately or just go with an allotment.

We don't know Wiltshire very well so would appreciate any info any of you might have on what areas are nice and have allotments, land for rent and what areas we should avoid!

Cheers!

Hi
Any particular reason why you want Wiltshire? Do you need to be near somewhere special?

I live in Swindon now and spent some of my childhood in Warminster. Some parts of the county are really expensive, some aren't so bad. It's quite a big county and there's loads to do. Some really beautiful parts and some scaggy bits. Do you want rural or near a town? Swindon, in the north, is the biggest town but there are some lovely little market towns and some great little villages.

Difficult to say where to go and where to avoid as each town has it's better areas and it's rougher areas.

Good luck house hunting.

Zoe

We've chosen Wiltshire as its nice and central between family and friends, my mum lives in Somerset, partners Dad in Hampshire, friends in surrey etc.

and we're definitely looking for something rural!

I live here, but am no help as I've been looking for affordable land for the last ten years .

Best of luck with your quest

My OH`s family originate from Wiltshire and we planned to go back when we retired but house prices moved faster than we did!
His grandad was a shepherd and his dad a smallholder near Shrewton. His grandad`s tied cottage near Amesbury has been gentrified to death and now would cost upward of half a million.
We`ve decided that we have to stay put in Derbyshire after all.
We are stardust, we are golden, and we`ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.
