The smell of sunshine and my laundry...

Post: # 122150Post LBR »

My mother gave me her mattress and box springs. I am now sleeping on a bed, which is, to me, quite larg!. I can sprawl indulgently, in several directions. She's getting an electric, adjustable air bed so that she doesn't need to sleep in her electric recliner all the time.

She gave me a stack of cotton sheets and a lovely, completely cotton, mattress pad. I washed the lot and hung them out to dry. When I took the mattress pad off the line a bit ago, it smelled of hours of sunshine. I breathed in such glory and felt thankful for clean and the sun. I'll bask in the waves of sunshine when I go to sleep tonight. I knew you all would understand sleeping on puffs of sunshine. Mmmmmm.

Ooooh lovely. You can't beat the smell of laundry that has dried outside - I think it's one of my favourite smells in the world.

I knew you all would know what I mean. Yes, it was lovely, crisp, and scrumptious. Freshly sunned bedclothes, freshly bathed me, and a favorite soft nightgown. Lots of down pillows packed around, and a wool/silk comforter with an ancient, worn, perfectly soft cover.

Summers here are muggy, but not too wet. Yesterday afternoon's sun was perfect for laundry. Now, if I could just trade you some sunshine for a visit to those glorious gigantic lilac bushes, or a visit to a forest with bluebells peeking out in between the misty rays....

I'll be sending you all sunny thoughts. We could use some rain. How 'bout a swap?

It's the best smell in the world. I'd forgotten how good it was until I moved to the country and now I have to be restrained from diving head first into the laundry basket when I bring it in.

If the just-brought-in laundry were emptied onto the bed, diving in would be very nice, indeed. I found an excuse to hang up some more today. I'm usually rather stingy with doing laundry. Once a week, or it waits a week. This new bed has been a nifty excuse to do more. I like pinching those expensive, hard wood clothes pins. I like using my old-fashioned clothes pin bag. I enjoy my 1960s clothes line poles. I even like it that they are crooked. I like looking at the laundry blowing in the breezy. I like hiding my undergarments in the inside rows. I like smoothing out the wrinkles as I hang them up. I like how the wash clothes and towels sort of crunch as I fold them later.

Now, if I could just feel this way about doing the dishes, or dusting....

LBR I love doing my washing too. I love my peg bag made out of my favourite shirt of Sophie's from when she was tiny, I love pulling out my washing line and hearing it whirr, I love seeing the stuff flapping about all over the place and i even love playing "chicken" with the British weather hahaha!

Even after a day out the washing is damp. We've not had really dry weather all summer, it seems. Last week, I had this funny smell in the house - tracked it down to a pile of washing ("sun" dried) that I hadn't put away yet... :(
