Aloe Vera by Lee Faber.
I have only flicked through this so far, but its great. It has medicinal used, skincare recipes (Soap, cleansers, lotions, lip gloss etc.) and culinary recipes (one for chilli!!!? ).
I'm just gonna have to wait until my plant grows a little (ok alot )
Oooh that sounds like a fab book - another one for my wish list.
I LOVE Aloe and was constantly using it to treat burns (I can't cook anything without burning myself!)
Then, in a moment of madness (alright - sheer stupidity) I accidentally sprayed the leaves with my cleaning mixture (tea tree and patchouli) thinking it was the water spray - and my beautiful plant died!
I got 2 tiny plants about 3 years ago. Both fit in one small yoghurt pot.
Now they are both huge, and I've never had the heart to throw out any "babies", so I have about 20 of different sizes and generations around the house, despite having given some away.
After much trial and error, I find they like people. They don't like a "dead" room. Light? Temperature? These don't seem so important. They need a room with humidity and circulating air, i.e. a room with people coming and going.
A "dead" plant (brown, shrivelled, brittle) is not really dead, they can be revived very easily. Just give them a little water and a put them somewhere better.
Now one of the 2 originals is growing a flower head!
I heard they grew flowers every few years, but I never saw one before.
I can't wait to see how it turns out.
