Aaargh
I keep being called by a direct marketing company who put the phone down when i answer. Its all very irritating.
So...i googled the numbers and foud out the name of the company and a bit about them. They're trying to sell mobile phone contracts to me (on my mobile number...).
So...i phoned my mobile provider and explained that i was getting these calls only to be told that the marketing company are part of the network provider!!! How cheeky is that! I'm really not happy. As most of you know, i work really strange hours and they keep waking me up!
I've written to my mobile provider and asked for a full explanation for why they thought it was ok to pass ym details on and spam me without asking, and how much they've made out of selling my details (which i've asked to be passed to me for my inconvenience) and an assurance that when i change network i will not be charged for taking my number with me.
has anyone else dealt with similar? Did you win/fail? how did you go about it? Got any other sneaky schemes?

wow! never tried that. I did however manage to get out of a virgin contract using their own terms and conditions. they cut me off with no warning and when James called them (he's my contract holder) they said we'd deleted our direct debit. we had not. we went to the bank, they said it was deleted by virgin and a lady at our bank called on our bahalf. virgin were still complaining, claiming it was our fault. incredibly it took another call from Dierdre at basildon HSBC to put it right. and while they took their time reconnecting me, James and I read the T&Cs. they'd c0cked up under section 10 of their T&Cs:
"10.2 Your right to cancel: You may end this Agreement immediately in the following circumstances:
(a) if we break this Agreement in any material way and do not put it right within seven days of you asking us to;
(b) if all of the Services are permanently no longer available to you;
(c) if you do not accept any change that we notify you about in accordance with clause 5.3 and you notify us in accordance with clause 5.4 that you do not accept such change. "
they broke it. they paid for it by losing two very well paying customers. James switched companies immediately. THEN we started getting letters stating we'd ended the contract early and we owed them moeny. it eventually took a massive barrage of complaints letters to and from them and a threat of shopping them to trading standards and watchdog for them to give up.
we're both on T mobile now.

Yes - had the same thing with the mobiles and got pretty fed up with them.
We're currently getting the same thing with Weatherseal Windows and have reported them to various people - they've apparently been warned already and shouldn't be doing it. Can't remember off the top of my head who we've reported to but will ask D when he gets out of the shower.
We had the latest call from them today - dead line.
About a week ago we had one where the guy asked to speak to the home owner... I took the phone through to David as I thought he was just in the mood to deal with it... but the guy had rang off before I got there (about 20 paces)
GRRRRR
Which company is it that is doing the mobile phone thing Fee? I wonder if it's the same one that we had.

Doesn't help much when you are working nightshifts! I got a call one day from somebody late afternoon - I told them I was just on my way out to work; they b***y well called back next morning, when I promptly shouted at them, as I'd just gone off to sleep! When the heck do they think people on nightshift sleep? So now I never have the phone on unless I expect a call. I shouldn't get any calls anyway, as I'm on this preference list. Still, when I do have it on, 9 calls out of 10 are "spam" calls.Ellendra wrote:Here in the US its illegal for telemarketers to call at night.
