would you vote for an independent Scotland?

Here's a small forecast for an independent Scotland ...

Five years after the split from the UK, Scottish society will be developing (or inventing) a split. The Central Lowlands (that's the Glasgow/Edinburgh belt) will be accused of keeping investment money to itself and ignoring the plight of the northern highlanders and the southern uplanders. The fact that the great majority of people in Scotland do live in that central belt will make the accusation correct but the fact unavoidable. Orkney and Shetland Islanders (assuming that they joined in the independence shuffle in the first place) will begin agitating for independence from Scotland. Hebrideans will start to shout for their own assembly.

Berwick-upon-Tweed will decide that its erstwhile romantic nonsense notion of changing countries was a bad idea and will appeal to rejoin England.

The Euro, which Scotland will have been pressured into accepting in return for large EU subsidies to keep the economy going, will actually damage a weak economy even further, forcing huge increases in the cost of living. Border Scots will become news items as they regularly cross into England to do their weekly shopping.

A great number of Scots will begin to wonder why they ever listened to nationalist claptrap and seceded from the UK.

This isn't poking fun - I'm being perfectly serious. And I know it would happen because I happen to know that there is no fundamental difference between Scots, English, Welsh or Irish. They're all the same kind of human being and will carry on doing human things.

you forgot the east-west divide (E'burgh is tradtionally 'england-in-scotland, lawyers, bankers etc, while G'gae is displaced highlanders, tenemants, unions etc) never mind the proddy-fenian issues!

I've only been to Scotland twice and it seemed like a foreign country so I'll vote for independance! In fact I felt more at home in New Zealand than in Scotland! This is not saying anything bad about Scotland, just that I found it to be extremely different from southern England.

I've only ever been to the borders, never further up than longtown.
beautiful country, and all the people I met were friendly. large breakfasts.

Although, not so good when it comes to veggie breakfasts. On a Scottish tour about 10 years back I told people a billion times over that I was veggie 'yes that means no sausage, no Scotch sausage, no bacon etc etc' - breakfast generally arrived with a selection of fried meats. At one B&B near Lake Lomond the proprietor actually used his hook (ala Capt Hook) to take the offending items off my plate, saying "now are you sure you don't want it hen?"

I have been to Scotland many times working and pleasure it is a beautiful part of the world and if an independant Scotland helps stop the red tape that has ruined England i'm sure that it would be voted in , i have many scottish friends who would love to see an independant Scotland for that fact alone, i wonder if old tree man and old tree lady could become independant from this government that we have now like Scotland England is a beautiful country, its the self indulgent cretins that run it is where the problems are .
