I was given a culture ages ago and i cant find anyone left to give some to,as it multiplies i feel obliged to find different ways of using the yogurt,tell me does it eventually go rancid? it seems to be very tangy lately and does anyone know can i use soya milk with it?

All starters either lose their starting power or go rancid at some point. I use a teaspoon of yoghurt in the bottom of each yoghurt cup and mix in scalded milk (which has been somewhat cooled) in the yoghurt cups, put the lids on, cover the machine, and plug in the machine for a few hours. If I forget and eat all my yoghurt, I buy more yoghurt and save a bit for starter.

Maybe some others know about the kind of starter you have.
