Fantasy dinner party

Post: # 110985Post Lady Willow »

Which six living people would you invite to dine with you and your partner?

Today I'd have;

Billy Bragg
Susan Sarandon
George Clooney
Lenny Kravitz
Judi Dench
Alexi Sayle

I added Lenny at the last minute. I realised my list was made up entirely of white people! I like his music and I saw him interviewed not long ago and he was really nice, down to earth and sounded like a lovely man and dad .. .so he's not just there cos he's a looker!!

but no doubt this would be different next week

Having a dinner party with famous people would, I think, be much too stressful. My fantasy dinner party would be to have some friends and family from the homeland come over.

This is a great thread.

Without any question I would invite my best friends, so assuming that we are choosing people we don't know and would like to have a get together with, in no particular order.

Mark Steel (Holder of the Guiness record for the most protests in one day)
Jeremy Hardy (A man of vision and finely tuned sense of leftwing humour)
George W Bush (needs no introduction)
Tony Blair (ditto)
Khaled Mashal (The Leader of Hamas)
A skilled, openly lesbian bouncer (and gifted interpeter who can operate a video camera), to make sure they stay.

(I just like this cocktail... another day, another dinner, different folk)

Sorry, I can't help saying this, its my inner geek (yeah, like I'm not geek through and through!), but Doctor Who is the show's name. The character is just the Doctor, no Who. Again, sorry..I'm powerless to stop it!

Clarissa dickson-wright (the survining "fat lady", I've just finished reading her autobiography and I'd like to hug her and tell her she's an amazing woman),
Stephen Fry (he's just plain cool; I'd like to discuss manic depression with him),
Ray Mears (so long as he doesn't bring dinner!!! I'd like to know how he as a total pacifist became a person who trains the SAS in survival),
Meatloaf (again, just plain cool, but I'd like to ask him many things about his life),
Philip Scofield (wanted to meet him since I was small and he was on 'going live'),
Fern Britton ('cos again, very very cool. Much respect to someone who has lived through severe deprerssion & PND and can still tell the tale)
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very

Another cracker, let´s see.....

Mark Thomas and Rob Newman - so we could bang the world to rights and have a bloody good laugh about it.
Wendy E Cook - Peter Cook´s first wife, I´m totally in love with her Biodynamic cookbook, so she could make dessert
Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu - not cos I want to discuss politics, but just for the spunky-old-men angle!

After that, well I think we have to have some eye candy.....and now you put it in my head Lady Willow, might as well be Lenny Kravitz :rr: yum.

Interesting peoople who didn´t make the list, cos I know that in real life within 5 minutes I´d be really irritated by them:
Stephen Fry
Richard Dawkins
HH The Dalai Lama (sorry but it´s true)
baby-loving, earth-digging, bread-baking, jam-making, off-grid, off-road 21st century domestic goddess....

...and eco campsite owner

Kate Bush - for her amazing mind
Stephen Fry - for his amazing mind and his fantastic use of the English language
Alan Davies (or is it Davis?) - very funny, but otherwise an ordinary bloke who was taught the same bullsh*t as me at school
Billy Connelly - funny bloke
Christopher Hitchens - so good with words, so good at arguing, and so right on everything!
Someone who disagrees with Christopher Hitchens - to keep him amused

I met him when I was about 12, he's lovely!

I'm afraid I'm in a bit of a shallow mood, so my choices would have to be..
.

Johnny Depp, and he'd have to wear the "Jack Sparrow" outfit, since it's my dinner party!
Dave Grohl, cos he is just so damn cool
Serj Tankian, I bet he'd have some great stories to tell
Chris Cornell, for the silky voice
Jonathan Rhys Meyers cos I've been a massive fan for ages, and he doesn't do much publicity, so it'd be cool to find out what he's really like
and My mum, she'd kill me otherwise.

And if it's okay, I'd quite like to host it in either a traditional Mongolian yurt (is that the right word or am I getting confuddled?) or, failing that, I'd like to hold it Tuareg-style in the desert. I've been watching too many documentaries recently...
