My new "Green" job:

Post: # 108366Post Ellendra »

After being unemployed for almost a year (it will have been a year by the time I actually start), I finally got a job!!

I'll be answering incoming phone calls for a credit card company, which isn't always pleasant. But, the best part is my commute every morning. It involves . . . walking to the living room.

Hurray for telecommuting!!

Ah, working from home - what a fab job you've landed. It's amazing to think how many people must be working from home now. It makes perfect 'eco' sense to me, but some of my friends have tried it and hated it - they just couldn't self motivate. I guess it suits some and not others......

Enjoy your new job!

Hurrah for you! I work from home too a lot of the time, it's fab. Much better lunches.
They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?

Congrats - but beware!!!!! The really bad thing about working from home (which I do) is that you can't throw a sickie. And it does no good arguing with yourself that you need to go and do research in the library when you know it isn't true. And you know that friend who is desperate for help moving apartments? That doesn't work either. Your parents are no longer allowed to be sick and helpless without your presence. Heating system breakdowns cease to be a viable excuse. An earthquake might do the trick - but probably not.

Enjoy!!!!

I'm guessing laryngitis will work. But yes, their sick days policy is strict. That's ok, I've never been one to call in sick unless I was very sick.

Well done Ellendra and I hope you enjoy the job.

I think one can work at home whilst a bit sick whereas if you have a horrible commute to work then 8 hours sitting in an uncomfortable chair with no chance of a proper rest somewhere comfy it is a different matter!

I used to work from home a couple of days a week, and motivation was an issue - so I created a separate office space and 'went to work', but the staff canteen was the biggest problem, come the real office days I couldn't fit into my clothes - there was something just too tempting about having the kitchen within easy reach - full of crisps and biscuits and sandwiches, and soups and jacket potatoes with curry and cereals and ...... get the picture

I really wish hubby could work from home but it'd be a logistical nightmare. for one thing, I'd have to have at least 30 sweaty men in my back yard, plus the problem with digging the trenches for the work-pits. Then we come to the problem of creating sidings and there's no way a 10 carriage set would fit in my yard. Oh, and we'd have to have FGWR re-routed to Essex.

and they listen to sh!te on the radio too.
