need advice on a plant

i rescued a conifer from next doors flat last night..they have done a runner with rent arreers so cant see them coming back to get it lol

its a light green conifer tree but the top is brown and the bottom is still green....is there anything else i can do besides watering it to save it

I'd say cut off the brown, cutting off dead wood normally gives the plant more energy to grow the green bits more bushy... but I could be wrong.
