litter drive

Post: # 105921Post Russian Doll »

i was walkin round grays where i live and was distgusted by the amount of litter also another post on here got me thinking so im organising a litter drive basically its going to be a competition for children and adults
to collect rubbish..there will be a prize for the most litter
collected and a small prize for all children enterin......i think this would be a great
idea for the children as it will educate them about the enviorement
and get them to take responsibilty for our planet and our community

i used to do one in west sussex every year as a child and it was a
great sucssess ....we collected up to 200 bags of rubbish in four
hours which as all will know would make a hell of a difference....im
in communication with thurrock council at the moment about this but i
wont be able to do it without help so any advice or if your local to me and can help it would be appreciated thanx guys

It's a great idea, but you probably wont get back-up for it due to health and safety .

please make sure you get them all to sign something saying you're not responsible for any illness! you don't want to get sued in this stupid "bouncy castle" culture!

 what a great plan

a few recommends
Hi-viz if near any roads
Thick gloves for all involved
Instructions to the children not to touch any dog poo/broken glass/sharps
Have on hand some antibacterial/cleansing wipes or the like
Have a first aid kit available
If possible provide washing facilities

I used to 'womble' in parks/communal gardens/play areas as a job when my boys were at infant and junior school (great job as I could take them with me during school holidays) along with black plastic sacks our main tools were sticks with steel (sharp) points attached - very effective, but not recommended for little ones

excellent

as for sharps if the council won't supply a sharps container try the local health authority. Even the bin men now have to have one of these things in the dustcart at least the ones i worked with did.
remember if they say your not allowed it dosn't mean you can't!

i get odd looks cause i will pick litter up from around my area; people will
think your odd for wanting to do this but who wants to be normal
try hard mean well and never give up
