I "lost" my job today - Yippee!!!

Post: # 102475Post Milims »

In August last year I took the plunge to leave the job I loved on a building site because of family circumstances and it becoming increasingly difficult to find work within a 30 mile radius of home (sexism at it's "best"). I went back to work in an office 4 days a week - that way I could have some time at home to do the yucky stuff and be there for Chris. At first it was ok - but as soon as my trial period was over they asked me to work full time and started to really pile the work on - and basically take advantage. Over the last 6 months I've been off work genuinely sickl more times that I ever have in my life - including a back injury because of what I ended up doing. So last month I gave in my notice - but they begged me to stay and refused to take my notice. I was told that they would employ more staff - there's actually 3 different jobs - and I could work part time - as I had been employed to do initially. So I agreed to work full time an extra 2 weeks past my notice period and then convert to part time, to give them time to find other staff. I took last week off - catching up on last years holidays that I couldn't take previously because it was too busy (and I still have days yet to come). I went to work today to be told, this afternoon, that my notice had been accepted after all and that I was finished on Thursday! So I took 2 of my days holiday that I was owed and finished today!

Well, if you see it that way... Any ideas yet what you'll be doing after?

(Mind you, I feel like I could do with a good stretch of time off... :? )

There are a few things going round here - it's tourist season and it's big tourist area. I'm just going to have a bit of a breather, get my head together, get the garden planted, the house sorted and make a plan of action. Life has been a total rollercoaster over the last 2 years and I need to fit a lot of things in. We can manage really quite well on a part time wage and it means that I can be around to care for Chris (who is disabled and has been neglected in favour of work!) and the kids - and, well, do whats really important, rather than coming home from work too shattered to do anything!

I hope that you make sure to get the holiday pay which is due to you - am not sure that I'd be too happy at being treated that way to be honest... but... yes, at least you can be home while the Wombats are visiting (and that is a good thing indeed!!!)

If it made you sick that much, Milims, you are a thousand times better off without it regardless of anything else. Congratumiserations.
