I am building a new chicken coop and enclosure, for my chickens ( dug-up patio area) so barren soil. I want to plant around the perimeter -on the outside. Thinking more herbs/perennials. I want to avoid anything that is too attractive to the chooks, who might decimate it, and also anything that coul...

Re: Urban soils

You never know, what you might find, after all they dug up a king in a...

good news for bees
Bee deaths: EU to ban neonicotinoid pesticides ... 2 year ban , on nicotine containing pesticides, should start by 1st July this year. Let´s hope that this does help bees , and that the 2 years is sufficient to show a noticeable improvement, in bee populations, and the ban can be made permanent! htt...

Re: monsanto seed monopoly
I think it must be a different take on the same issue Digger, but I can open any of the links on the realseeds page!
I just received the email from avaaz this morning, so most likely it is the same issue. Maybe Monsanto are using the issue to try and get their patents, or vice versa

monsanto seed monopoly
Monsanto are now trying to get patents on yet more everyday veg & fruits like cucumbers, melons etc " The situation is dire already -- Monsanto alone owns 36% of all tomato, 32% of sweet pepper and 49% of cauliflower varieties registered in the EU. With a simple regulatory change, we could ...

Re: Keeping Wild Boar
the wild boar around here, can be vicious......... they have been known to charge at cars, causing them considerable damage, and could easily kill a person, with their tusks, and they will attack at the slightest provocation, or even for no reason, but they are nocturnal, so daytime is safe to wande...
