how much yeast ? it just says to add yeast.

I am headed out to buy buckets and air locks, and no doubt all sorts of other must have goodies, so will need to get yeast too.

Cheers !

Re: Just given 3 demijohns, now what ?

Mike, thank you sooooooo much for that. I know what I will be doing this weekend. Even the timing works as I will be away next weekend !

Just hope I have 4lbs of rhubarb in the garden. Love that we can still eat it afterwards, double the value.

Re: How to start wine making?

Ok, so I have got a couple of used books and an option on some demijohns that I need to collect this weekend. This guy has a few he is shifting on fleabay, so how many would be a decent number to start with ? I am only thinking of making a few different fruit wines, nothing to serious [well not to s...

Re: Pot success!

I hear you on this, I have a garden full of loveliness, including containers...

But house plants ? might as well cut their roots off as you walk thru the door. And I would love to have a big lush corner/shelf/windowsill in each room. Tired of buying them.

Re: Whats your Foraging technique?

I am starting to notice more things, spotted a couple of elder trees while out on my bike today. It is really my first year to be thinking about this, so guess it will evolve over time. I do a lot of trail/fell running and also mountain and road bike, so am learning more to keep my eyes open for dif...

What to do with a bale of hay ?

My neighbour gave me a bale of hay the other day. She had been given it for her rabbit, but it hasnt been 'treated' or something so she doesnt want to give it to the little dear  At first I thought I would use it under the strawbs as I havent got any straw yet, but then realised it would be fu...

Argh, potatoes....

I am about to go mental if another potato from last year grows up in my neat rows of onions and super slow to start carrots  I have been easing them out with a trowel and my neighbour has been replanting them as she has space, so at least they arent all wasted, but come on :shaking: enuf alre...

Re: How to start wine making?

Thanks for all the info. I have put out a request on freegle and asked a few neighbours for demi johns etc. I can certainly appreciate what you are saying about not being able to re-create what I get from a bottle [ok, or box] makes sense. If I can gather some equipment I will give it a go, or try t...

How to start wine making?

Ok, so all this talk of making your own wine has got me thinking... I have been known to enjoy the odd glass, mainly dry white Pinot or good red Merlot types :drunken: . I have no equipment, not much spare time, but keen to give it a go. What do I need ? where should I start ? Obviously keen to not ...

Re: Will chickens use a cat flap?

I just leave my pop hole open, no one has complained yet.

If you do try and train them, and when they do master it, please PLEASE get video footage put up on uTube. I would just love to see chooks being trained.

Re: Nettle soup ?

Thanks Maggie, that was pretty much what I was thinking of. Quantities ? I think I have a couple of potatoes so that will determine the rest.

Wish kids were home to torture with it. Altho there are plenty of nettles left still....

Any recipes, tips etc ?
