Re: First time wine making... questions...

Can I slosh it about, or take the top off to stir it now? Yes, wine does not suffer from the introduction of oxygen after the yeast has been added like beer does so feel free to mix in the sugar, the more it's incorporated into the liquid the easier it is for the yeast to make use of it. That book ...

Re: Hydrometer and thermometer (for wine making)

Re: Yoghurt making advice

If you want a cheap Rouille type cheese add a pinch of salt, 1tsp Garlic Powder and some chopped mixed herbs to your made yoghurt and strain over the sink overnight! Fab! I totally agree, it's one of my favourite cheeses and the stuff we made was far superior to anything I've bought in the shops pr...

Results: After an hour the fizziness was supressed, but still very volitile, and I lost a good 1/4 pt and was v. cloudy. After 1:30 the fizziness was controlable to allow me to sucessfully get all the contents into the glass. After 2 hours ice crystalls had formed and on pouring blocked the neck wi...

Re: Clearing homebrew

Do you mean your beer is still cloudy or do you mean it has a chill haze? Cloudy beer is a simple one to cure, leave it alone until it clears and you'll be rewarded with a nice clean mature pint for your efforts, as a rule of thumb beer should be left in the maturing stage (after fermentation and ra...

Re: ish beer

For those that require a bit of a more technical approach to brewing here's a good site with information on the life cycle of the yeast http://www.beer-brewing.com/beer-brewing/brewers_yeast/yeast_life_cycle.htm I found it interesting to read and it re-enforced what I already believed about the way ...

Re: First time wine making... questions...

Hello Annpan, nice list of items you have there :D 2 large plastic barrels - with 3"diameter opening, they have air locks that fit them but I don't quite know what they are called - I am going to use them for fermenting. perhaps they are made for beer making? If it's one of these http://www.bre...
