Does anyone know how feasible it would be to put windmills on top of towerblocks /skyscrapers in citys ? ?
I'd certainly prefer that to paying thru the nose to NPOWER as i do at the moment !
Not to mention it would look rather nice..

Your regular wind turbines would vibrate too much, but I have heard (a while ago now) of specialized turbines being developed - from what I remember they were more like a jet engine - large tube with various propellers (or whatever you would call them) inside.

Have you seen the info on this site?
http://www.sustainingtowers.org/ROOFa.htm#Wind_turbines_
Quote
A typical 20 storey tower block with integrated wind turbines could potentially generate approximately 20% of the annual electricity required in the building. This will require four turbines [4M dia each] located on the roof of the tower block.
One option is to size the wind turbines to meet the electricity demand for all the common areas of the tower block.

Problem I see with this type of scheme is when we get that once every 50 year storm there will be parts of wind turbines raining down on the pedestrians below.

They should have stayed indoors then
Thanks for the replies...seems like its not very feasible after all..

But where would the helicopter land when the baddies take the hostages up to the roof ?
