that's something I'd like to do with soph when she's a bit bigger. we do plant identification in our own garden and she now recognises hyacinths (and what's more she can say it lol!) and chives.

trees looks far more interesting though!!!

reading Mrs Flibble's post, we got a DVD of "The Herbs" given to us by someone who reads newspapers. ds1 watched it, became obsessed, and so we got a video from a charity shop (there was only 2 episodes on the dvd, and I am not a patient woman). He watched it, became more obsessed, so we found another dvd on ebay. Etc. So when the weather got a bit nicer, I showed him all the herbs in my herb garden. He was familiar with the names, so I let him feel them, taste them, and he can remember where they are. The chives have taken a battering, he seems to like eating them, but it has encouraged his interest in gardening, as he has helped to plant some parsley and basil. We are encouraging his interest in the innocent programmes of our youth (Wombles and Bagpuss=recycling, Paddington=acceptance of "others") rather than this computerised Transformery Anime bilge that seems to be on a lot of kids TV channels. I also rather enjoy being referred to as "Lady Rosemary".
