"Children taken from drunk parents - A UK couple on holiday in Portugal had their young children temporarily taken into protective custody after they collapsed drunk, officials have said."

Full story is on the BBC at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7383439.stm

I am a parent and I like a drink as much as the next man, but there are limits.

I believe that the couple think they were spiked, they claim to have only drunk a small jug of sangria which, even abroad in touristy places, always seems to be about 80% lemonade with a couple of manky oranges floating on the top....
Jury's out in this house, but I guess after the McCann frenzy the authorities HAD to be seen to be doing something, what with the media focusing on the country a year on from Madeleine McCann's disappearance. However, the cynical side of me says that spot-checking the bedrooms of rather more 'upmarket' resorts might yield better results.

Not to mention an interesting insight into the carnal proclivities of the inerbriated holiday maker and their taste in PJs.

You're probably right - the hotel were keen to be seen to be doing something and the authorities were keen that they were keen.
